Back Up Putter - identical?

do you have the same exact putter as you're back up?

do any of you who love your gamer so much, you buy a back up putter that is exactly the same? So you have an extra one just in case.

Oh, I don't know....(insert any reason here)

Or should I be considered paranoid?

Some putters are hard to find and buy, and/or models change so much that if you have one that works, you quickly buy another just in case the OEM makes changes or the quantity run lapses, etc.

Who's done this and why?

I did this for the first time in my career. The only difference is my gamer has a UST FF shaft in it and is a 1/2" longer than my back-up. I went this way because I wanted to practice with the same putter and even grip of the putter I would be playing with. No particular reason, I just thought it would help me get comfortable with this putter...I honestly believe it has.

I have 2 similar style putters, but they are not the same. The lux plays a bit softer and heavier and the anser is a bit firmer and lighter.

 

They both work well for different conditions. It gives me a little variety when I need it.

My gamer and backup have the same headstyle, alignment device, weight, length, lie, loft, and grip. The only difference is that one is stainless and the other is nickel plated carbon steel. I don't putt with anything that doesn't match the specs of my gamer.

I couldn't see myself spending money on an identical putter.

My gamer is the TM Monza Spider.

My backup putters are: TM Siena Classic # 4 and a Ping G5i Mini-C. With the TM Siena Classic, I figured it would give me a similar contact "feel" due to the AGSI+ insert. The Ping G5i Mini-C never felt like getting rid of it 'cause I liked how it "optically" aligned w/the golf ball. This one I've left with my back up golf club set in FL. when I spend a weekend there with relatives.

I have 3 backups....all are "anser" style heads...are identical for length, loft, and lie angle.....Headweight and looks vary a tad....Somedays you just need something different....

Yes, I have a platinum finish and a black finish of the same model - soon to be the same length and lie and grip. The black is better under bright sun.

I game a Cameron but I have many backups, none being a Cameron.

 

If your wife has a twin sister, would you want the twin to be your paramour? Of course not. You'd always want to try something different, right?

Or even theft, I can think of a million reasons, like a loss of your putter to a friend in a skins match....ha!

 

Seriously though, I think I'm paranoid of being without my putter - call it putter anxiety....

I would have the same exact putter for a backup but it's one of a kind.......
