Max Blacks?

How are they?

Thinking about playing them. How are they? I play pro v 1x on a regular basis, u-tri's if I dont have any x's left. How will they compare?

Have played them head-to-head against the ProV1, ProV1x and the Srixon Z-UR. The BlackMax is as long as the others more durable than both the V1's and the Z-UR, and spins somewhere between the V1 and the V1x. They are now my ball of choice! MY only concern is that they don't seem to handle a headwind particularly well.... :lol:

Sounds like a good ball. I find the prov1s to be very durable, and if these are even better, I'll have to make the switch.

 

The previous max balls seemed to be inconsistant off the irons. I also felt like I was hitting fliers out of the slightest rough. Have they solved these problems?

 

Maybe I'll put them in play after I go through my last box of provs.

It's the new ball in my bag. Definitely noticed the durability is better then the Cally HX Tours I was using. Didn't notice anything superior on the distance, but I do like the feel of it when I'm putting.

Once or twice I have got a "knuckle" ball when hitting a wedge out the rough. Ball comes out high and then dips sharply at the end. Haven't noticed anyhting in respect of fliers, but the ball behaves better than the Pro V1x on half shots and knock downs - far more predictable.

Played it today in a tourney. The weather was crappy, therefore the course was really wet. Hard to tell if there is a difference off the tee.

 

There were two things about the ball I really love, both of which were brought up by others above. Around the greens they are super soft. They remind me of a professional. The other is they ARE EXTREMELY durable. The tournament today was a 27 hole member guest. I lost a ball on the 21st hole of the day. I remember looking at it on the tee and noting how good the ball looked for 20 holes. These might be a keeper. I'll have to wait for a normal round to check the distances.

They take me back to the days of the original Revolution (wound ball). Put them in play with my new irons yesterday and will look no further (until the Bridgestone B330 hits South African shores).

Played a quick nine this morning with them. The ProV might be SLIGHTLY longer, but the feel of the Blacks is unmatched. I hope they fall in price like the rest of the Max's.

I find them to be almost as long as the Bridgestones, but they check-up soooo much nicer on the greens! :lol:

I really like them. I find them as long, if not a few yards longer, as the ProV1 and much more durable. It's the ball I am playing this year.

I've played 2 rounds with the max blacks. Not bad at all. Great feel around the greens and they do last longer than the pro-v's. Distance is a bit shorter than the prov but very workable, easy to shape shots with.

 

I heard a rumor that the person that designed the blacks was the same guy that designed the original pro-v's but they changed the cover. AGAIN... RUMOR?!?

 

As for the New bridgestone bb30's, I played a sleve for 3 holes. They cut too easy. Don't care for them much and the feel reminds me of a range ball.. :lol:

THe BlackMAX is a wonderful ball, very nice feel, and has great distance, and it really spins off the wedges...

I was actually dissapointed with that ball. Its an ok ball, but I can get a better ball at a better price.

In my opinion it's one of the worst of the "high end" balls. A buddy was playing them the other day and hit a few drives with it, must have been about 10-20 yards short of my HX Tours. Spin is decent and durability is great, but distance is VERY poor. Not near as good of ball as the Pro V1, Pro V1X, B330 S, HX Tour, or HX 56.

The ball spins too much for me on full shots (with short irons). If it had less spin I would use it but alas I am not.
