FAKE PXG GEN2 irons

Grisham posted here about some Ebay irons and it became evident that they are indeed FAKES.

These were the GEN1 PXG irons and now we are starting to see the GEN2 irons show up in China, ie AliExpress.

 

These are VERY GOOD copies! Take a look at these pics and try to tell which is the real and which the fake. Yes, I noted in the pics which they are, but very difficult and the differences have become much more difficult to discern.

 

1. The fakes now have Serial numbers;

2. The number of screws is correct;

3. The wedge W looks ok;

4. The fonts are slimmer and better matching;

5. The placement appears similar.

 

BUT.……...

1. The 0311XF may be further from the top edge in the fake depending upon pic angle;

2. The PXG symbol may be further from the two toe screws in the fake;

3. The font in PXG may actually be a bit too thin.

 

List anything more that you see. Remember these fakes are cast, solid heads not hollow/filled like the real PXGs.

Well the FAKES are very good...……...BUT they made a fatal error in these!!

 

1. Simply look at the faces and if they have a lower groove that is painted white then they are the fakes.

2. The real PXG GEN2 0311 XF satin iron faces do NOT have the white groove.

(Note: The extreme dark GEN2 actually do have the white line.)

Why would anyone buy PXG irons on EBay? Isn't a big part of their value the custom fitting? Another lesson that golf clubs are one of those items that need to be purchased from a known, trusted seller, even if you have to pay a little more.

Personally, I liked the white line on the Gen 1s and wish they hadn't gotten rid of it.

 

It's Ping-esque, like a lot of the PXG features due to the engineers.

Thanks for posting all of the info on the fakes. I sure wouldn't buy a set off ebay, hardly comfortable buying any golf related items on ebay.

Well as I said the real GEN2 PXG in black do have the white lower groove....here ya go.

Unfortunately, these are not real...total fakes.

Very difficult to tell these from the real ones!

Yes, it appears they do have S/N.

PXG GEN 2 0311P …… FAKES!

Again, solid cast heads and they are very close to the real deal. Expect them on Ebay soon.

 

PXG heads only should come in plastic with three stickers on them, including the weight of the head.....

 

To tell the difference, request head weights...they should be close these weights:

One more thing to look for in the GEN2 Fakes. The PXG Logo!

 

Check out the Logo on the Fake and then the Real Deal. Notice that the space between the letters in the Fake Logo is more than in the Real.

You will see the same thing in the Silver finished heads above as well.

 

Pic that shows this difference. Just spotted a black set for sale on Ebay from UK …. total fakes.... going for over $2100!!!

Be careful when buying especially NEW stuff like these. The same Seller had some black ones that sold for $2500....ouch.

Why are you spending your time worrying about fake pxg? It is evident Bob Parsons don't care. Fakes are a problem because of demand, sad to say but true. Takes a lot of attorney money to go after these guys. Let the manufacturer worry about there problem

I’m not sure what Bob’s motivation is but his information is very valuable to consumers more so than PXG corporate. Like you said... let the manufacturer worry about their IP problem, but who is going to look out for the consumer? We have to look out for each other. I for one thank Bob for providing the info he has and welcome any more insight he can provide on the issue.

This Thread is about Fake PXG irons intended to alert possible buyers of the fact that these exist and how to identify them.

I am willing to do this as I am a PXG user and don't wish to purchase any Fakes myself.

 

There are many Threads in this Forum by golfers wondering if a club they intend to purchase may be Fake. This is only about PXG as I just don't have the time to sort out all of the many other brands that have Fakes as well. Maybe someone else will do that.

I’d also like to point out that you are doing a service, not only to the people who wish to buy used PXG clubs, but also to the good sellers out there that sell authentic used PXG equipment. Honest sellers will benefit from dealing with educated buyers who know how to spot the real deal. Thanks again for the info you have provided.

As mentioned above, the spacing of the PXG logo is the easiest way to spot a fake. Real ones are very tight, fake ones have quite a bit of space in between the letters.

I have yet to see on a Chinese web site/AliExpress any PXG model 0311T fakes. Only 0311P and 0311XF for GEN2.

I expect these are the real deal. The satin GEN2 I have seen have a bottom groove that is painted white...these do not.

 

Call PXG @ 844-PLAY-PXG, #5 and ask to verify the serial number(s) for model, #, finish, GEN.... ie 0311T, GEN2, satin, #6 iron, etc.

Thank you for the tip, requested pic of serial number so will call tomorow. Buyer said he has gen 1 XF and wife bought him this set but he’s not good enough for these so he didn’t use them. So they are new €1500 below price. Also ebay business protection and will be using Paypal so i’m golden?

Remember the Chinese counterfeiters are not dumb....they use authentic serial numbers....BUT they most often do not match the model, GEN, # or finish type, so you need to be specific asking PXG about all those.

There is a second error on the part of the Chinese counterfeiters for these GEN2 irons!

In all cases, satin or xtreme dark finish the word "FORGED" is NOT in Italics like the word GEN2. It is in normal font.
