Bending Irons 1 Deg Weak - Any problems or Issues??

I'll admit I had a small mental block bending irons. I dont know why years ago I was fitted for irons off the rack specs and 2 deg flat. I played them off the rack and got around just fine.

I did get fitted again last year as a much better golf and was fit into ap2 with 1 deg weaker loft standard otherwise.

The 1 deg weaker increased my launch and spin a bit as I'm a low spin player.

I played them stock but again realized I don't spin my irons enough as I hit these ugly low draws that spin left off the green.

Now I"m in the market to move to a "players distance iron" a la PXG 0311p or I500s or 919 Forged, ..... I also want to go 3-PW but dont want a 44 or 45 deg PW.

So I think my solution would be to order a players Distance Iron 1 or 2 deg weak 3-PW

Will ordering 2 deg weak mess anything up with the bounce? Will the club look differnent? Will it play through the turf any different????

Thanks!

The answer to all of your questions is yes.

But very likely not enough for you to notice, in particular the look of the club.

It will increase the bounce on each club that is weaker than stock, but minimally.

Turf interaction won't be a noticeable difference.

I say go for it, without hesitation, doubt or concern.

I play all my irons 2 degrees weak for three reasons.

1. to purposely add a bit of bounce. I like bounce. Bounce is your friend.

2. To decrease the offset. It’s very subtle but I notice it.

3. To Hit the exact gapping that I want between clubs.

Additional thought. If you struggle with low spin and launch I wouldn’t even consider a 3 iron. Not for a second. Learn to like a hybrid.

Launch will be most effected. Spin per degree of loft with iron spin rates is fairly neglidgeable. We only gain about 250 RPM per degree at 100 MPH swing speed. When spin is already 4-8K, it equates to almost nothing in terms of performance differences.

I use it to my advantage - I hit the low almost thin 3 iron that rolls forever. I never hit the 3 iron outside of a tee ball.

This is probably a good idea for me as I don't spin the ball much. I'm around 5k with a 7 iron...

I challenge you to take it one step further. Find a good launch monitor and note your average carry distances with each iron. Adjust the lofts for desired gapping. Some may be weak, some may go strong, you don’t know until you really dial it in!
