Have you been fit for your current irons? Given your index I'd be considering something slightly more helpful that is well fitted to you. If you're not flirting with 80 most rounds I don't really know why you'd use players irons as you basically just need to advance to ball to get to around 90.

He talks about the feel, look, shape, cost. He shows the numbers he is getting with both clubs; spin, launch, ball speed, carry and total distance and dispersion. He even slightly preferred the V6. Not sure what more of a comparison you would want. Of course your results could vary from his numbers, but at least his "hitting them back to back" would show you that these clubs are very similar in performance when struck well.

Good luck!

I have played GI irons. My first set I was fit for were the PING "G" irons. Played them for a couple years. Last summer picked up a set of used i200's and they didn't seem all that tough to hit. Felt better than the "G" irons. Ordered a set of the PXG XF (GI) irons with the online fitting when they had 1/2 off gen one irons and liked the feel of them, but they just seem so huge. Club ho'ing continued and I picked up a used set of Mizuno MP-18 sc's just because they were so pretty and I figured if I couldn't hit them I'd sell them. Turns out, I can play them and love the feel. The size doesn't intimidate me and I actually prefer the look. I've shot just as low and lower with them than the huge PXG clubs. The Wilson's peaked my curiosity as a forged iron and they look as if they'd be a bit more forgiving than the Mizunos. I know my game has a long way to go, but FWIW, my handicap has been established at the Country Club I'm a member at where our slope from the white tees is 133 and our greens generally roll at a 12. I'm finding more greens in regulation or plus one stroke but three putts are killing my scores. They are going down but still where I could shave the most strokes.

You are correct. I guess what I took away from it was both clubs were almost identical. I was just looking for more feedback from people that may not have tour club speed that have hit both clubs, and if so, are the Wilson's any more forgiving than the mizunos?

My above comment was by no means meant to be offensive. I haven't been playing long at all and went on a similar journey from GI to Ping i200 and since to blades and now AP2. Just wondered if you had been fit because that made a big difference for me. I honestly think people make too much of iron forgiveness. I took my blades on my recent trip to Florida and played Copperhead with them one in from the tips (73.1/139) and managed an 87. I don't think cavities would have lowered that by much at all. I wasn't swinging all that well either. I'd definitely recommend keeping what you have until you can get an outdoor fitting. For me, I get "ideal" numbers from certain clubs but then everything changes outside. I couldn't hit the SCs that well indoors but my swing wasn't on that day and if I hit them outside I guarantee I could get around the course with them given I can shoot good scores with my MP32. Seeing how the club goes through the ground and being able to visually see the ball flight is so important. I'll probably never buy clubs based on an indoor fitting again.

Wasn’t offended at all. At my handicap one would thing GI clubs. I just don’t like how they look or interact with the turf. I’m not a digger and the wide sole irons just feel almost cumbersome to me. I understand the Mizunos are going to be shorter due to the loft and my 80mph iron swing speed so I take an extra club over what I was used to. Funny you mention blades. I also picked up a minty set of Titleist 716 MB’s for the fun of it. Haven’t played with them yet but have hit them at the range. You definitely feel poor strikes with them and they aren’t as buttery as the Mizunos but still like you say, I could probably get around the course with them.

The Mizuno MP-18 clubs are made with blending in mind. So the most obvious solution would maybe be keeping the SC in PW,9 and 8 and possibly 7 and just add MMC or Fli-Hi (or both) for the rest where you might need more forgiveness.

I am in the process of moving from GI irons to something that offers more feedback and feel. One of the possibilities I've been considering is blended Mizuno MP-18 set, PW-9-8 SC, 7-6 MMC and 5-4 Fli Hi. I'm also considering Srixon Z785/Z585 blend.

I’d considered this unfortunately they don’t offer the MMC’s in left handed.
