Mackenzie Ballistic Review

After much deliberation, excessive instagram scrolling, and a very long wait from order to delivery, my new mackenzie bag arrived today. I immediately loaded it up and took it to the range, followed by a quick 9 in the rain. First off, this did not disappoint in any way. The quality is fantastic, love the look, a very comfortable carry, no club tangle and plenty of room in the bag. I tried a Stitch SL1 briefly, but the strap was awful (as many have noted) and the pockets were so tight to get in and out of, it just wasn't for me. So that led me to a custom Mac: 8", 2 pocket ballistic.

Also of note today, was that the ground was soaked and had no issues with keeping everything on the inside dry. The only real negative in the process was the design and the wait. Their sister company, Fore Ewe headcovers, has a great interactive tool where you can fully design your custom headcover. Mackenzie's is similar, but you can only do a handful of combinations. So you need to map out an idea and have them do the mock up, which is fine, but less than ideal because you can't tweak on the fly as you can with the headcovers. As far as the wait, I ordered this around March 7th and it arrived today (4/26). They originally projected late April so no surprise there...but it was tough waiting it out with this level of anticipation.

That looks absolutely incredible. Strikes me as a bit of a more modern color scheme on a pure classic bag. Nicely done. Looks like it was well worth the wait.

 

On a side note, where is that putter cover from?

Thank you! Yeah I love orange and grey together. Almost went blue which may have been safer for the long haul. But happy with what I did.

Nothing extra for mine. The split bottom (2 colors in leather) was not extra. I thought about a message inside, but thinking about it today, I don’t think I’d notice it much. Yeah the emails and radio silence Was frustrating.

I suggest you guys pick up the phone and call in addition to emails or messages. Nic is a great guy to chat with and easy to work with as well, in my opinion. Also, with something as personal as a Mac, it adds to the experience to get his suggestions to what will not only look great now but many years down the road.

that's a really nice looking bag. i've been thinking of getting a walking bag and had my mind basically set on the jones rover, but having seen so many mackenzie's recently, i'm thinking i might bite the bullet on a more customized option than the basic jones.

I haven’t seen a Jones in person to compare, but once you see enough Mac’s they become hard to resist.

That bag looks sweet. I have had a ballistic for four years and am adding a waxed canvas to the rotation.

 

They are wonderful bags. Great quality, carry great and look wonderful.

Updated headcovers, which I like a lot more. Both are Seamus. The black tweed has an orange lining. Odyssey cover to match.

"She's a beauty clark!" Love that grey and white with orange bits combo. Picking up a bag you love after every shot is an underrated feeling out on the course.
