Hybrid + crossover/iron/hybrid

I have struggled to hit a 4i consistently in the past and the one in my set would be 20.5* which is stronger than my previous 4s. I love my 19* 818 H1 but thinking of how I gap to my 5i. For some reason Hybrid - hybrid doesn’t sit well with me so I’ve kinda been leaning toward 3 hybrid - 4 crossover - 5 iron. Is that a crazy set up? Or should I just learn to hit a 4 iron and save $ 130?

Additional dumb question ... can you bend a crossover to adjust loft?

I know Ping will bend the original G Crossovers up to 1.5 degrees either way. Assume bending the other versions are no problem either.

What Crossover are you looking to buy? The G410 4-iron is 20.5 degrees and the 5-iron is 23.5 degrees. Without knowing anything else, if you can't hit the G410 4-iron well I doubt you can hit the 20 degree 3 Crossover (G410) much better. Nearly everyone reports that these clubs are much more "iron-like" than hybrid like, and the G410 Crossover seems to be even more "iron-like." At low lofts, you just need good speed and very consistent strike to make it work.

I would first just try your 19* hybrid and the 23.5 degree 5-iron. The gap may not be that large or you could take something off the hybrid if necessary.

Edit: I just re-read and saw you said 4 Crossover. At 23 degrees, I don't think this will go much farther than your 5-iron. Maybe a little bit due to the lighter/longer shaft. You could also try getting the 4 Crossover bent to say 21.5 and this may create a bigger carry gap with your 5-iron. I'd still say it may be difficult to hit if you found past 4-irons of this loft challenging.

Yea I hear ya. I dont know why it's such a mental block for me to carry two hybrids. I think once I get settled with these new irons I got to figure out the gapping. Currently my 5i is about 185-190 and my 818 H1 is 215-220. I am missing that 200yrd club (noticed it twice this past round). I also like the idea of the crossover off the tee as another option and some added versatility. I don't think I can hit the 3i Crossover but I am concerned with the lofts of the 4i crossover at 23* and the 5i in my set at 23.5* as @agolf1 mentioned. I assume the crossover will travel further vs. a similar lofted iron (is that true?) so that's why I was thinking to bend down 1 to 22* to get a better gap between 5i and 3H.

I would also suggest looking at the G400 Crossover at 22 degrees. Visually, I think this club looks like it offers more help than the G410 Crossover. As a tee shot club, it may be better for people that are on the fence vs being able to hit a traditional iron at this loft well.

I have this exact setup, g410 19 degree hybrid, g410 crossover bent to 22 degrees, to i200 5 iron at 25 degrees. The gap between the hybrid and crossover is a little more just because the g410 hybrids go so far but I can always just choke up on the hybrid to close the gap a little. The g410 crossover still goes high but I can always flight it lower when needed.

Does the 22 gap well with the 5i at 25?
