So eat at Trails for lunch on Thursday. Good food and nice to walk off 18 and go straight to eating, drinking and rehashing the round.

 

Preserve had Sun Mountain quiver bags, but I heard Seamus started supplying cool carry bags. The Sun Mountain were free, can’t imagine they’d start charging even with the Seamus. They also have rickshaws if you have a full bag. Depending on the weather and wind, be careful to not drop too many clubs. If going rickshaw, I leave the entire bag intact.

 

As for the get away round, you will want to. If the boys had a good time on Pacific the first time, no reason not to have a second round, especially if the weather has changed and the course has the possibility of playing different.

You'll want to Pacific a second time, I guarantee it. We played our last round of the trip on PD similar to your itinerary with night closing in. Sure, the drive to Eugene after 36 isn't great but I'd be kicking myself if we hadn't played it again. Hole 13 as the sun was getting lower on the horizon was sublime.

I’d walk off Trails and see what the wait is, if any at Trails Deck. If there is room, I’d eat there because you never know what awaits at Pacific in the way of crowd. Also, eating right after the round always for time to eat and head back to the room, especially if at Lily Pound or The Inn.

You can also loop the crap out of Pacific once it gets late - and if there is no one behind you - if you don't go past #12.

A quick heads up out of courtesy to a marshal with what you're going to do and that you'll walk in on #7 when the sun goes down and you're good to go.

Check the lunch menus at both on the site. Given the choice of Trails or PD for lunch, I'm taking PD ten out of ten times, especially if I'm going the be teeing off there. You've got the Punchbowl to help digestive issues, and you may get lucky and be able to move up a tee time or two.

I agree with Spud that I prefer the lunch menu at PacGrill more than Trails End, but Toomey is correct that Trails End is generally much less crowded and easier to get through. Given the time of year you're going though, the outdoor seating at either should be easy to get. Both are smaller kitchens though, so a large lunch crowd at either slows things down a bit. Oh and Toomey is correct that if you can hit your room to freshen up (or have a spare set of sock/shoes available) between rounds is a great feeling.

What kind of food do you guys like?

There's a bunch of really good brew-pubs in Eugene. Falling Sky, Highlands or Ninkasi are all great.

The Glenwood is good for more healthy-ish fare.

Tacos - Mama Mayra's or Taqueria Mi Tierra

yeah i can second eating lunch at trails. delicious food. prob some of the best lunch. its nice to get off the course and right to lunch instead of having to rally everyone and move somewhere else.

 

pro tip: free ibuprofen from the front desk. we were in some pain after a few straight days of 36. ibuprofen is magic.

Again - don't overthink it. If you walk off Trails and are hungry, have lunch there. Maybe you have time and want to stop at the lodge and change socks. Have a dog at their turn shack.

Thx again Spud and all! You know how it is, we are all soo excited by this trip. Trips with the boys are always the best, and we always play at nice places, but nothing on this level. You want it to be perfect and make every “right” choice to maximize the experience. That said, it boils down to being with my guys for 5 days, the rest is gravy. We’ll have an absolute blast....5:30 tomorrow morning can’t get here quick enough!

One last thing - don't forget that when you land in Eugene you are about two miles from Fiddler's Green. This is arguably the best pro shop on the west coast, and a great place to stock up on anything you need for the course, including balls, rain gear, etc. The everyday prices are really good and they have a lot of closeout gear on super discount. They also have a short par 3 course and a range if you feel the need to swing a club while you're waiting for your buddy to land.

you wont have any problems just popping in where you feel. i found that we were so tired after rounds that we would just want to get in after the round at the place we played. all the food is good so you won't really have to worry.
