Made in America

I saw the new Bridgestone commercial while watching the Cadillac this weekend. I found it interesting that Bridgestone is promoting making balls in America. The fact that an American company is not, is for another time. Does this change your willingness to buy Bridgestone balls? For me if it is close, I will give them every chance. Of course I have current stock to work through first. But after that, I will give the B330 a real chance.

If I want to buy a flag I'll buy a flag. If I want to buy a golf ball I'll but a golf ball.

Appealing to golf ball buyers with a prominent American flag in their ads is an offensive cheapening of the flag by Bridgestone in my view.

You don't believe it is a good thing to keep jobs in America?

All things being equal, I will buy American. And Bridgestone balls are great. They have a ball that fits just about every type of swing.

I have played Prov1x forever. Occasionally flirting with some other balls, but always returning. I have heard good things about the new BStone b330, so this add got them on my radar when I had always dismissed them Fourmyle has his POV and that is cool. I just thought it odd that Bridgestone was the first I had seen to advertise making balls in America.

Yep, most Bridgestone and all Titleist. Some Callaway and Taylormade. Check the box or sleeve if it is important to you.

Titleist produced all balls in the US until a couple of years ago when they started producing some balls at this Thailand plant, but this is a relatively small amount compared to the amount that are produced in Massachusetts. I am not sure if Bridgestone is producing all of their USDM balls in the US now, but prior to this year the B330 and eSeries were produced in Japan while their other balls were produced elsewhere (Taiwan if I recall??).

As of last year, Callaway only produced urethane balls in the US and TaylorMade only produced urethane covers (core and mantle layers were produced in Taiwan or China). With exception to Titleist, all surlyn/ionomer covered balls have been produced overseas for years.

Taylormade is building a new state of the art plant in South Carolina. They also already have one in Greenville, not sure if that is full ball or just the covers.

They were in an old Dunlop facility in Westminster and are now moving 20 miles away to Pickens.

I buy what is on sale, so long as it works. An American company will gouge you just a readily as a foreign one. When that happens I resent them all equally.

I have no problem playing quality balls made overseas, but I do think it is good to get some manufacturing jobs in the US, and all things being equal, I will choose the homemade ball.

Now it may just be a marketing ploy by Bridgestone to expand their market share in the US, but there are very few major corporations that do not have financial reasons to move a manufacturing site to another continent. To be honest I have never played a Bridgestone ball, but this announced change has caused me to take a look at them and it hit me in the head like a frying pan that the e5 had a urethene cover! They are now on my list to try.

A friend of mine runs the biggest Golf Stores in my country with 20 subsidiaries. They are exclusive partner for Europe for some of high end golf products from Japan.

Recently he visited a golf ball factory in Asia and the GM of that factory apparently told him "....here we produce the golf balls for brand X, the next door the golf balls for brand Y and over there the golf balls for Z. And in the other factory over there we produce the balls for brand A and brand B". Not minor brands, but big ones.

It is very likely that some balls are produced in the western part of the world and very likely that another part is produced somewhere else where the production costs are about 10-20% of what it cost to produce balls in Europe or the US.
