How much further does the ball go in Denver?

I'll be moving to a suburb west of Denver in 2 weeks and I've never played out there. All of my golf buddies keep telling me about how much further I'll be hitting the ball when I get there.

I've played golf in/around the Midwest my entire life so my question is - how much distance do you gain out there? I don't bomb it but my average drive gets around 280 and if a really poke it I can get 300 in the summer. 8 iron goes 150-155, nothing special.

Any and all advice is appreciated, thanks in advance!

I'm in Colorado Springs (which is higher than Denver) and I'm only seeing a 10 yard gain from California - was hoping for more but that's it.

You have to remember, it's not just elevation that makes a different...temp, humidity also play a role...

If everything else is equal, every 5000 ft. in elevation is approx. 10% carry

I play out there once a year with family. Coming from sea level in NC I get a good club longer, definitely takes a bit to get used to. I'd say a good 10-15 yards with your irons, and you may be hitting 300 a lot more often too with the driver.

What about half or 3/4 wedge shots? I'm a big fan of the Dave Pelz clock system. My half 60* goes about 55, 3/4 goes 72 or so. Maybe a 5 yard increase?

I can't wait to get out there and tee it up. 2 polar vortexes have me itching to get out of Chicago - 45* would feel like 65 right now!

Learn to hit the ball higher when you get out here. There is very little wind and you will gain extra carry. I would say a club is a good rule to start with.

It's about 10-12 yard difference and I know how to stripe the ball - I'm a good stick on this forum!

awesome! I wasn't meaning quality of ball striking. Simply, that you can get away with playing a moon ball and gaining some extra distance.
