Has anyone golf anywhere out in Kauai, Hawaii?

Leaving for Kauai, Hawaii on the 19th of April. I know I will be golfing 2 days out of the week I'm staying . But I am not sure where to go. I would like to go golf at the nicest course Kauai has to offer. I have looked at photo's online, but still keeps me wondering if I'm getting the best. So if anyone has been out there. And has golfed. I would really like to see your guys thoughts and opinions.

It's all tourist golf. Pick one.

We played the Prince course @ the afternoon rate of $165. A bit crazy but scenic and fun. It is typically ranked as the top course so that's the one we chose.

I thought the Wailua muni looked interesting and it's cheap. Didn't get to play it because we had a lot of rain.

Hot tip: Many times, return flights to the mainland leave in the early evening. When you have to check out of the hotel at 10 or 11, that leaves a long day basically wasted. Can't go to the beach. How many souvenir shops can you visit? Here's what we did. Check out. Have an early lunch at the Tavern. 12:30 tee off (afternoon rate) on the Prince course. Then use their full locker room facilities to shower up and change clothes after golf. Down to Lihue for a dinner then head to the airport.

Recommended Dining:
BarAcuda - Hanalei (reservations a must)
Hamura Saimin - Lihuie (a real dive, but killer saimin)
Pono Market - Kapaa (plate lunch)
Hee Fat General Store - Kapaa (Shave Ice)
Island Taco - Waimea (tacos, duh. Biggest surprise of the trip)
Feral Pig - Lihue (pub food, Feral burger ++)
The Oasis - Kapaa - BEST MAI TAI

If you like ahi tuna, just go to the Foodland supermarket deli counter and pickup some Poke. We ate that almost every other night for dinner!

Enjoy Kauai. Recommend the Kauai Revealed guide book.

I played at Poipu Bay in January. They held the PGA grand slam of golf there for like 10 years or something. A lot of cool memorabilia there. Course is fun with a lot of the back 9 along the ocean. Great practice facility too. Wasn't too crowded and we played really fast. I ended up renting clubs so it was kind of pricy but worth it for tge views you get.

Thank you guys for sharing your experiences. Do they do twilight for tourist? Cause from what I've heard and read online. Twilight rates apply to the locals.

I played in Kauai a few years ago. I played the big three of Poipu, Lagoons, and Prince. If I was playing two rounds it would easily be the Prince course and Poipu Bay. The prince course has a lot of tough but amazing holes while Poipu has amazing views on the back nine. While we were playing there was a group of whales just off shore breaching. Lagoons is fun and nice but in my mind it didn't come close to the other two courses. I also played the Wailua course and it is a good deal for a good layout, however the conditions weren't nearly as good.

Is it true the north shore of Kauai gets a lot of rain during March and April. Can anyone confirm.
Generally acknowledged that the North shore is more rainy than the south.

Of the courses I have played there, I would rank them Prince, Poipu Bay, Kauai Lagoons. I've heard the Makai course at Princeville is pretty nice as well, but haven't played it yet. Kauai Lagoons is a great course to play the day you fly home as it's right next to the airport and they have shower facilities there. Have a great trip!

Ahhh Kauai...i want to go back! play Princeville. The hole setups and views are pretty great. Lots of elevation changes and some forced carries. lot of people mention taking extra balls, which is probably true, but its not an overly tough course if you can keep from spraying it. service was excellent. They honored a coupon i found in a marriott book, even though i didn't stay at the marriott.

Going to Kuai in May. Staying at the Grand Hyatt, so I will definitely play Poipu once. Princeville is out I'm afraid due to the hour drive (the Mrs. doesn't want me gone for 6-7 hours).

1) For my second round, should I play Poipu again, or would anyone suggest another nearby course?
2) Does the fact that Kuai Lagoons appears to be right by the airport detract from playing it?
3) How is Kaihuna?
4) Mid may, what is the latest time I can be assured of finishing a round? Can I play 2:30-3? Is the downfall of those afternoon times the wind?

This might not be in your realm, but I've played every course on Kaua'i a few times and my favorite, cuz I'm a bit quirky, is the little 9 holer Kukuiolono Park & Golf Course.

It is up on the hill outside of Kalaheo--in between the turn to Poipu and Port Allen......the have a gorgeous Japanese garden, the views are absolutely spectacular, and it's $9 a round unlimited all day long from 7a-6p.

...and when I say the views are spectacular, I mean it. Outside of a helicopter trip around Na Pali you can't get much better than that little hilltop when the sky is clear.

The wild chickens are hilarious, too.

Hey GoStars,

Did you end up going in May? Would love to hear your thoughts on those questions if you answered them on your trip, as I am going this May.
We went in December. Arrived on Sunday mid day, left at 11:00pm Friday. Got about 3 drops of rain once while we were lounging in the pool. Not another drop of rain the entire week. It was 75ish degrees and sunny the entire week. I was expecting a daily shower/soaking, and was pleasantly surprised. We did stay on the south end of the island at the Hyatt (Poipu), but we did venture to the north, east, and west as well. For one of the wettest places on earth, it sure was a dry week!
