Getting on at Sandhills

So I am thinking about setting up a trip to Nebraska to play golf. It seems that a few members here have been able to play Sandhills golf club. I just needed to know how hard it is to get on? Should I try to contact the club? Any help you have would be greatly appreciated.

I've played it through a local in Mullen that a friend of mine knew. Got there early and they refused to let us hit balls or putt or anything which was quite awkward. Some on Golfwrx have written letters to the course and gotten on that way.

Last August I was got on with a foursome. I called the Sand Hills clubhouse around Feb/March last year and one of the nice ladies told me I could write a letter with my request and gave me an address. I wrote a letter including the exact day we wanted to play in mid-August and that I had a foursome very interested in playing. I included a lot of personal information about our appreciation for the game of golf and kind of sold them on why they should let me on. I waited the longest 6 weeks of my life and received an email from the owner letting me know we had been sponsored for the day we requested. From there I worked with one of the ladies in charge of arranging golf/accommodations.

I think we got on the exact day we requested because I wrote the letter and sent it roughly two months before they opened. If you get approved to play they send you all the costs, etc. It is $225 for up to 2 rounds of golf. They do not guarantee two rounds and that is the max you can play. You pay for a cart for the day at $50. You get a member number for the day and you basically charge all your food, drinks and proshop merch to that number.

I was informed recently that you can usually play one unaccompanied round (reciprocal, letter writing, etc.) in your life. If you use that route, you can mever play again, even accompanied. Has anyone else ever heard this?

You are correct that non-members are allowed one trip unaccompanied by a member in their lifetime. However, if you accompanied by a member, you can go back as much as you want.

I've heard stories of guys that flew in from NY to play unaccompanied. One of the guys in the group had played at Sand Hills 15 years previously, and was barred entry (AFTER he already arrived). :sad trombone:
