And finally the Driver, first time I've used her in 5 weeks. Felt good to let her rip today :)

Pigs, you're not even fully healed yet and you're getting many
driver swings north of 110 and one even 115. At those speeds
you can turn par 5s into par 4s. That's pro-like. :D

I'd say I am pretty much back to full strength, I dont think I'll be getting any more speed of of my driver. But it does comfirm my driver SS I guess because I used a different booth today and got similar number to what I was getting pre break in the other booth. Now if only i could figure out how to turn those pro speeds into pro distance and accuracy. Par 5's are normally my biggets challenge, i have a hard time hitting long clubs off the deck on second shots :)

As you know the distance will come with optimal fitting.
Accuracy...well, we know how that goes, lol. Too bad
we can't buy accuracy, haha.

Though I will add that I believe you will find pretty good
dispersion with that PL Blue shaft once you can put it in
and get used to it. That's one thing I like about that shaft,
for me. I can swing as hard as I want with it and balls
won't go sailing all over the place. As the WRX community
would say.....it's very "stable", lol.

An interesting experience today . . .

I tuned in to this thread early this afternoon and saw the screen shots that Pigs had posted. I looked outside and it was beautiful. The sun was shining and the temperature was a 'balmy' 7* Celsius. I asked my wife if I could head to the range and she obliged. Loaded up the clubs and off I went.

My goal was to spend 3/4 of my time on 30, 60, 90 yard shots with a 9 iron, PW, GW and LW. I was striking the ball cleanly and felt like all the parts were working as they should. Placed some impact tape on my 7 iron and made 10 full swings. Here is a picture of the distribution pattern:

So I played 9 holes of simulated golf under the sun, slight breeze moving the ball right to left. I envisioned every shot on the front side of my home course. Made it a point to finish every swing and watch the ball land on the ground. I didn't not make a swing that I wasn't committed to and struck the ball as solidly as I ever have.

After reaching 'the clubhouse' I finished my bucket with five driver swings (2 draws and 3 fades) and here is the distribution patter:

That moment when properly fit equipment and focused practice come together. Now I need to continue moving in this direction for the next 4 months until the good weather finds us again.

I hope the Wager Boys realize this . . . we don't need new equipment, we need to clear the clutter in our brains and refine our skills.

tdelam . . . hit a few under the sun for all of us (even if the are a wee bit sideways). I'd gladly shank a few balls to join you 'down south'.

Excellent, your getting me even more excited to try it now :)

I still have one more adapter so I can still try another shaft, I have been reading up but haven't found anything else really that sounds too interesting yet.

Pigs,

Are those your typical iron distances in the real world? Something seems a bit off when I look at your driver distances. What would you typically hit from a flat lie, on a calm day if you were 150 yards out?

How does it feel to release your hands? Any discomfort?

We had the exact same weather here today PD, its great that you got to get outside and stretch the old girls out in the sun. And with all the practicing your going to be scratch in no time :)

Those are some nice tight groupings as sir, I keep forgetting to get some of that impact tape. Do you get it on ebay?? Do you swing your driver high to a high teed ball or do you tee your ball low?? When i put the sim tees to its lowest(35mm) i still seem to hit to top of the face like in the picture i posted earlier, its strange. I could probably pick up some yards just by hitting the center of the face better lol

The distand i hit it wouldn't match up gap wise with my 5 wood the way i was hitting it today, going by my woods i should be hitting my 3 iron around 200-210ish i think?? I probably hit down on my irons to much too, hmmm. No discomfort in my hands to relase the club, i do catch to uch ground now and again and in my longer irons i noticed i was hitting them higher on the club face and towards the heel a bit, but i never really feel like io hit my long irons well for whatever reason. ill get a pic up here in a few mins.

This I'm my P, 8, 6 and 4. You can see with the 8 and 6, not so much with the 4 that I hit them up on the face and towards the heel a bit. I'm wondering if I need to get some of the lie angle flattened out in my longer clubs. I find I have to choke up on them a bit to get them to sit right for me.

Real world yardages are what I'd expect to see. Our yardages through the bag are pretty similar (give or take 5 yards). I don't know the lofts of your Titleist irons, but I'd surmise that they are a bit weaker than my Wishons.

I typically tee the ball so that a 1/2 the ball or less is above the crown. My impact distribution was high on the face last year before the swing overhaul. I was approaching the ball steeply from an outside to inside path. At one point I was so petrified that I would pop up the ball that I invested in ghost tape to protect the topline of my woods and hybrids. Now the miss is lower on the face. Being fit into a shorter, properly weighted driver has definitely made it easier to find the center of the face.

LongShot golf gentlemen. I purchased overrun rolls last year (800 iron, 400 wood and 400 drivers) that will last me a lifetime. The shipping costs to the Great White North cost me more than the impact tape.

I haven't found a better deal anywhere and they sent me a nifty dispensing box.

I do not use them in every session, but they are a useful tool under the right conditions.

Well sir it has definitely payed off, it looks like you are striking the ball beautifully. The lofts on my irons are just standard specs for that set, and i know some of my distance losses are my own ball striking issues as well. I'm really contemplating having my next shaft built to 45" instead, but that would mean taking some off the tip wouldn't it??

Pigs,

As I know that you like 'data' here's an interesting comparison between a 43.75" driver and 45.75" driver as tested by a group of golfers. There has been much written on these Forums (and in the club fitting community) about building shorter drivers. Now that I've gone to a 43.75" driver I'll never go back. I find more fairways, give up minimal distance, and feel more comfortable at address. You can figure this one out through 'tinkering' (as I originally did) and/or work with a professional builder (which I also did). Knowing that you have the proper set-up leads to confidence that can't be measured. Real confidence leads to improved results.

I do loves me data, and I'm even starting to understand some of it lol. if I was to want to "properly" trim down my wood an inch, would taking it all from the butt end be the best course?? I know some weight will bring sw back up but I've noticed it also softens the tip when you add head weight back.

I wouldn't take anything off the tip Pigs as the shaft already plays a bit stiff to flex in my experience. If you are concerned leave an extra inch on the butt end and grip down until you achieve the desired swing weight. I believe general rule is 1/2" off the shaft is equal to 3 swing weight points. 2 grams of weight added to the head will raise the swing weight by one point.

I should take a pic of my older irons and see how I compare... it will be close in a couple including my current SW. The fit issue explains why I have issues hitting inside on all my irons... except the Apex MB's that are 1/4 inch short of "standard." Well, that and the sweet spot in the old irons I played starting were more inside than today.

As for the "blades" comment... more like a "blade hybrid matrix iron" (mix of CB and blade). At least it isn't a "Fat Blade" like the MP-H4 and MP-H5. Hmmm... "blade hybrid matrix iron" ... I like that one. I think I will copyright that one and use it on my first line of irons. :)

TD, yes, tomorrow is another day! Heck, every pro on tour has good and bad days. Otherwise, this game would be a cinch!! And we'd all stick with the same set of clubs, same balls, same tees, and same shoes if it was so dam easy. My game is dependent on so many variables that a sports psychologist and Monte could make a fortune trying to straighten my game out. My game is so fickle, that if I have just a little too much bacon in my breakfast burrito before the round, I may end up in the trees sniffing for truffles and looking for my ball at the same time. Shake off the bad shots and focus on the good ones!! And remember to have fun!!

Wooleeboolee, yes, very true... I didn't let it get to me, I just enjoyed the day, took some pics instead of getting mad, lol! See here:

Tomorrow I am playing The Hombre, tough challenging course, I am looking forward to it!

I like that last sentence TD. The older I get the more I realize the
irony (pun intended) of getting mad on a golf course. I just can't
get mad any more. The are many many worse places to be, lol.

Yep, back home they got 20cm of snow! I think I'd rather shoot an 89 than sit inside wishing I was golfing!

tdelam . . . hit a few under the sun for all of us (even if the are a wee bit sideways). I'd gladly shank a few balls to join you 'down south'.
Will do :) Glad you got too hit some outside! That's rare for Canada, it's been quite the non-winter so far.

Well this one definitely looks familiar, at least in my long irons and woods.
The strange thing is that my woods are "full length" and I hit dead center consistently (even if a bit thin, it is center of the head not toe/heel). As for irons, they want me 2 degrees upright ... even when standard/standard for me is the final call. Never understood why they would want to move me CLOSER to the ball than I already am when my miss is inside. :)

Well folks it's official, my wife is now a golfer :)

She's the proud new owner of a set of Lynx Tigress ladies clubs. I think I may be more excited than she is about this but at least she has clubs now. Her parameters for choosing these clubs over the other ones she looked at, they say Tigress on them and they're pretty. Lol

And a few more pics now that we're home and she's had a chance to open her new toys. These should be a good starter set for her, nice and light with lots of forgiveness :)

    • Titleist GT drivers - 2024 the Memorial Tournament
Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
