Good courses near New Buffalo/Kalamazoo MI

Heading up for a Labor Day mini trip and looking for good courses in the area.

What kind of course are you looking to play? Whittaker woods is the closest to new buffalo area. Haven't played it in a while. Hear it is in nice shape. I prefer to play there on a low traffic day. Only thing worse than losing a bunch of balls out there is starring at another group of golfers all day.

I highly suggest a round at Angels Crossing in Vicksburg which is 10 minutes away from Kalamazoo. I played the course yesterday and its in amazing shape and the course is always ranked in the top 25 in the State when rankings come out. You won't be disappointed if you play here.

Whittaker Woods is excellent.

About 30 mins up the road is Harbor Shores in Benton Harbor. Jack Nicklaus design. It is a phenomenal and challenging course.

If there's a better course than Island Hills in the area I'd be shocked. Just got back from a weekend there and the course was amazing! Its in Centreville and it seems like no one knows about the place. Very little traffic which actually has me worried about its future. Place is the true definition of a hidden gem. And its a beast of a course. We played the blues all weekend which are listed at 6600, but it was closer to 6800. One hole is 613 yards from the blues and was into the wind all weekend. Today I went great drive, great 3 hybrid, great 3 hybrid and I still was 5 yards from the green. The greens were lightning quick, huge and loaded with different tiers, mounds and valleys.

We went as a 4 some and rented one of their villas....paid $460 per person for 4 rounds of golf on a course that would easily cost $100 in Chicago, unlimited range balls, and 2 nights in a 2 bedroom villa which was 20 feet from the 18th green. After the rounds we would just take the carts back to the villa and then in the morning take them back to the clubhouse. At night we had moonlit chipping contests on #18. Villa was so nice.....huge flat screens in all the bedrooms and the living room. Large leather couches, very nice kitchen a a balcony that overlooks the signature par 3 green #17.

As you can probably tell I can't recommend this place highly enough

We tried getting in Gull lake but it was packed. At first we were worried about playing the same course 4x in a row, but the course was so great that we didn't mind at all. It was fun replaying holes and trying to do better...by the end we knew what parts of the greens we could use as backstops for chips and even putts. One guy in our group had been to Gull Lake and said after going to this place we will never want to go to Gull Lake. Its like going from the Ritz to a Ramada.

New Buffalo - as many said Whitaker is good, but i find it over priced. Hawkshead in South Haven or Harbor Shores are good choices. You are about an hour from Kzoo, so not a short drive.

Another vote for Angel's Crossing. Live in Chicago and try to get over there every year to get at least one round.

There's about an hour + between New Buffalo and Kalamazoo. The Kalamazoo area has many more options than around New Buffalo.

In Kzoo, as mentioned, Angels Crossing is fantastic. Thornapple Creek is a nice course with good elevation change. The Moors is a private club that has some of the best conditioning in the state. Hosts lots of USGA qualifiers.

We play Whittacre Woods, Long Beach, the Brassie, Pottowattomie, Lake Michigan Hills, Chickaming. Harbor Shores seemed a long drive to Benton Harbor from NB, and the course was extremely difficult
