Advice needed for Trip to Marriott Ypsilanti at Eagle Crest

Hi All,

 

 

I have a conference to attend at the Marriott Ypsilanti at Eagle Crest in October. I will be there for a week and have the chance to get some golf in whilst there.

 

Question is whether anyone knows how good Eagle Crest is and whether there are other courses close (<2h) that I can play that I should?

Eagles Crest is fairly nice, but costs way to much in my opinion. You will get fall rates, which may help out. Eagle Eye in lansing would be a good option about an hour away.

Have the Hotel or Eagle Crest pro get you on at UofM (McKenzie) or Radrick Farms (Dye) just 20 minutes away and both are very good.

While I would certainly have at it with U of M(although I tend not to recommend playing during football season--I know what goes on on the course while tailgating), can they do that, and why exactly would they do that? unless I am completely out of the loop, U of M isn't exactly easy to get on(Radrick is even harder), and why would facilities/a professional attached to another course do that for him?

Not trying to be churlish, I just find this a highly unlikely scenario.

Eagle Crest is fine since it's so convenient to where you are. You might be able to get on U of M, but forget about Radrick unless you are connected to someone who is a member or staff. There are a few decent courses in Ann Arbor like Lesley Park and Lake Forest, and then there's Pierce Lake and the Links at Whitmore, which are about 30 mins out. Personally, I'd go to Moose Ridge which is also about 30 mins away. Good value, challenging (but fair), and in good shape.

Oh yeah, and for a "quick" fix, you should stop by Miles of Golf, which will be really close to where you are. GolfWRX has featured them previously, and I believe some of the WRX staff practice and do their testing there occasionally.

Stonebridge, Pierce Lake, Timber Trace, Moose Ridge, Coyote Preserve, and The Majestic I would recommend. I would not recommend Lake Forest or Whitmore Lakes Golf Links (The Links at Whitmore Lake). Also a stop at Miles of Golf is recommended.

Thanks for all the great advice guys.

I have checked out Moose Ridge, UofM and Pierce Lake all look nice and seem to have tee times available for booking so will try get 18's in there and then look at sneakng 9's in at Eagle when I have time.

As for Miles of Golf I have already planned a driver fitting for the Sunday, really trying to make most of trip.
