I just read the story from the owner's perspective. If true it's a very sad case, but I'll reserve judgement till I hear all sides of the situation. Bottom fishers will be swimming up 93 on the 12th to see if they can score a bargain.

Shemp, got a link to the story? Like I said, I love the course. What's going to stink is if they did/do no winter prep like cover the greens, etc... before the season.

In my opinion (banker who has lent money to golf courses in the past) it's very difficult to run a golf operation with a six month season, unless you really have your expenses under control and you have access to other major attractions that justify the housing component. Owl's nest is not all that convenient to major ski areas, and it looks like the housing side is what is killing the course.

Bargain... how about the course Timberlake just sold for 500k? He put a reported 16 million into the place not long ago if I remember correct. (I know absolutely 0 about the course or area, so just looking at #'s and commented on the "bargain")

Owl's Nest is about 20 minutes from Loon and 20 minutes from Waterville Valley...not really positioned badly at all in terms of location to ski areas. What killed them, I think, was the high pricing, relative to other courses. IMO, Canterbury and Lochmere are both just as nice, if not nicer than Owl's Nest, and much more affordable for people to play, especially locals. In fact, I just got a membership at Canterbury, 7 days a week after 12pm, for $900. I didn't even consider Owl's Nest, and I live 5 minutes from it. Only time I've played Owl's Nest was in the spring when they had their $25 spring rate. Not sure what's happening to it now, though, since it sold, they don't even have a website up.

We played Centerbury last year while we were up there (a group of 7 of us) and we were behind a bunch of member women having one of their competitions.

After the round, there was a LOT of fun on that back deck afterwards, jokes made, banter back and forth... seems like a really good club to be associated with. Fun people. Have fun with it.

I checked the Owl's Nest website, and they have 2015 rates and information up. I think that is a great sign that they plan to keep the place running. Now, I hope we can get some feedback on the conditions after that tough winter and ownership change.

Just checked their website for any spring afternoon deals... Looks like $30 after 3pm, but no cart. Not a particularly great deal. I'm playing St. Johnsbury Saturday afternoon for $28 including cart. I'd like to play Owl's Nest again, but not worth $50+ to ride this time of year.

I played the course last weekend and it really was in great shape. The greens were excellent and overall the course seemed to be very well kept. I like the course and play it a few times a year when I vacation up north so I am pleased to see that the new ownership is going to take care of the place.
