I am a 16 year old golfer out of Texas. I picked up the game when i was 15 and i fell in love immediately. I broke 80 for the fist time about 7 months into playing and now I am a single digit handicap when I'm not in a tournament. My Grandfather knows i want to play for a d1 college and he has placed the tracks for me. He payed for me to start playing in the local tour the Texas Junior Golf Tour. My performance in these tournaments have been terrible. I always have a bad first round and then an almost good second round. My latest I shot 100 the first day. My swing coach could not believe what i was telling him. The next day i shot even par on the front and 17 over on the back.... This has been the trend. a good first 9 and then i give my clubs to a hack who has never seen a golf course.How can I fix this? Thank you.

You just need to get better.

If you've only been playing 1-2 years, this is normal.

It takes a while to have your entire game (swing, mind, short game, putting, course management, etc) MATURE and consistently shoot low scores.

There's a big difference between shooting par once and averaging par.

Also, i played college golf and tournament golf is always harder than your casual, home course round. Scores go up and you have to learn to adjust

Bottom line is it just takes time. You have to improve your swing, mind, short game, putting etc and take it all to the next level

Also read a good book on the mental game like Golf is Not a Game of Perfect to avoid the back nine falters

One shot at a time. Read 7 days on the Links of Utopia also

You may not make a D1 team. So what. You got a later start than most of those guys

I actually started playing seriously when i was 16 and wasnt scratch till 18-19 and played D3

Take it easy, and just try to get better every year

You won't believe how much better you will be 5 years from now

So I'm not trying to be mean, but just real and honest with you when i say you're just not that good. It's not because you have some back nine disease. You just have to get better. Then your current good shots will soon be your bad shots, and you will rarely make worse than bogey
