Sawgrass: Off-course advice

Evening all:

 

Next week my brothers and I are treating our father to a 'Sawgrass Experience' for his 60th bday. We're playing both the Dye and Stadium courses and have booked three nights in Ponte Vedra at the Sawgrass Marriot.

 

I've found a ton of helpful advice in these forums as it relates to playing the courses, but not a whole lot in terms of what to do while NOT on the course (i.e. Restaurants, Sight-Seeing, etc).

 

I tried to find blogs and write-ups on "Doing Sawgrass right" but don't see much out there. Hoping to get some great restaurant recommendations here, and anything else that's a Must-Do while in PV/Jacksonville. This will be everyone's first time at Sawgrass.

 

In terms of restaurants, since this is such a special occasion we are going to go all-out, so we're not necessarily looking for holes-in-the-wall or bars, looking for places to eat great food and drink great wine.

 

Appreciate the guidance, and can't WAIT to get there.

Couple of things to note -

PV is about 30 minutes from JV. So if you're looking to "let loose" be careful of where you make your plans. It's an easy drive but you're on highways and 2 lane roads for most of the trip. Also, when I was in PV I didn't find it to be a great night life place that said there are some great restaurants off the beaten path - I used Yelp and asked locals for recommendations. Went to Sawgrass a couple years ago and ate at LuLu's Waterfront Grille one evening for dinner. Close by and good food.

i actually live in ponte vedra

you'll be staying at the marriott so within 2 minutes you have [url="http://pussersusa.com/locations/ponte-vedra-beach-restaurant"]pusser's carribbean grille[/url] that is also in the same complex as [url="http://www.ruthschris.com/restaurant-locations/ponte-vedra-beach"]ruth's chris steakhouse[/url]. the [url="http://www.tpc.com/sawgrass-about-tpc-sawgrass"]tpc sawgrass[/url] clubhouse is open to the public so easy enough to put [url="http://www.tpc.com/Sawgrass-Dining"]NINETEEN[/url] on your list of possibilities

the "2 lane roads" mentioned is A1A....take a ride on it and head south along the ocean as you make your way to [url="http://www.oldcity.com/"]st. augustine[/url] about 30-45 minutes away. another place to take a look at is [url="http://www.columbiarestaurant.com/st_augustine.asp"]columbia restaurant[/url] if you go and i suggest making a reservation if chosen. walk the city a bit and the history will find you. if you need to get your outfits right for the course check the [url="http://www.premiumoutlets.com/outlets/outlet.asp?id=55"]st augustine premium outlets[/url]. and i can't leave out the [url="http://www.worldgolfhalloffame.org/"]world golf v[/url][url="http://www.worldgolfvillage.com/"]llage[/url] if you're in the area for the [url="http://www.worldgolfhalloffame.org/"]world golf hall of fame[/url]

if you want to head north of where you're staying towards on A1A, which eventually turns into 3rd street, you'll be on your way to [url="http://www.jacksonvillebeach.org/"]jacksonville beach[/url]. this is where some of your nightlife can be found with clubs, bars, restaurants, live bands, etcetera. it's also a must to have breakfast at [url="https://www.facebook.com/pages/Ellens-Kitchen/115247361831717"]ellen's kitchen[/url] on 3rd street too.....sorry but this is a hole in the wall must. go between 7 am and 9 am for the early bird specials. it fills up as it gets closer to 9 so find a seat!

if you're looking to get away from the beach then head west on jtb aka the "highway" that i take to work every morning. you'll want to go the [url="http://www.simon.com/mall/st-johns-town-center"]st johns town center[/url] to find plenty of shopping and the nightlife on steroids. on beach boulevard you have [url="http://www.tacolu.com/"]taco lu[/url] and basically across the street you have [url="http://www.nippersbeachgrille.com/"]nippers beach grille[/url] located on the intercoastal waterway

If you go to sawgrass and dont eat The Palm Valley FIsh Camp you are missing out big time.

Just got back from a business trip to Jacksonville, where I made an extra day of it to play sawgrass. A colleague of mine who is from the area took us to tacolu and Clark's fish camp on separate nights. Both are places I would go back again. Both had great food and good atmosphere (totally different from each other but both are places our group enjoyed). I can't speak for much else in town as these were my only excursions away from a meeting.

TacoLu is pretty solid. Went there a few months ago, would recommend.

Loved A1A Ale Works in downtown St. Augustine. Would recommend to anyone.
