Just downloaded and listen to, putting out of your mind.

Definitely some thoughts that I've never thought of and cannot wait to get out this evening to immerse myself.

Part that changed everything and clicked, he said what do you think about when you hit a bunker shot. For me, a bunker shot is all subconscious. I get in the sand, open the face and swing, all while looking at the hole.

No clue why I do not do that with putting

Dead Solid Perfect is a pretty funny golf fiction book.

There's a lot of golf non-fic out there. "The Match" was good. "Duel in the Sun" was pretty good. I've never really read any John Feinstein.

I liked Shane Ryan's "Slaying the Tiger" from recent memory.

This is all the books I've tagged "golf" at goodreads. I've definitely read more, but just don't have them all tagged.

I read Extraordinary Golf and had some lessons with one the authors (Fred). It, like "Golf in the Kingdom," is a little new agey, Esalen Institute required reading, so if you don't like that avoid those two.

Did not care for Extraordinary golf and couldn't get into "Golf in the Kingdom" at all.

I could see them appealing to some people, though.

Golf Report

Played Nags Head Golf Links in 20 mph winds, punched greens and loads of standing water. Played 6 of the holes with a 78 year old from New Hampshire who shot even on the front with like 9 putts--and I swear is City in 30 years.

Tough finding the distances to the greens with the wind and left myself several +30 footers which were really fun with all the sand and aeration. The course is fun despite all that and you have to play smart targeted golf. I lost 3 balls and shot around 80 I think.

I should gripe that they charged $63 on a weekday with all the problems, but that is resort golf and the day was beautiful.

Any of you PG-Co folks want to play at Oak Creek some weekday next week? I'm thinking super early. I just got a Groupon email reminding me that I have a round there that expires at the end of the month. I bought it back in December and completely forgot about it.

I should be good for this. I also received the groupon email.

My Callaway driver plays shorter than (new)standard by .5" if you want to try it. We can compare length, see who the bigger man is, and go from there.

Where you hit the ball on the face of your driver isn't going to drastically improve your distance. Moving impact an inch, increasing smash factor by a few percent, and swing speed by 1-2 mph isn't going to improve from 220-240 to 260-270. Just stop being a little bich and hit ball hard.

If you no longer would like to play this week, I understand.

Additionally.

Don't listen to Tex. He stands like 6ft from the ball and reaches out like a mofo.

Yet I'm typically (not always) a better driver than you.

Asking about getting strokes solidifies my statement.

Your statement doesn't have to be solidified since we both know it's true. I think I have beat score 3 times, so the odds are not in my favor.

Obviously, your man hood has to be.

Fabb's excellent use of a GIF reminds me. You non believers can s his b's. I've played with him a few times at Hobbits. Each time he has blasted driver on 10 on that line like a boss. One time it was so pretty, I shed a tear.

I know it's not the main reason I'm not pounding it, but it can help. The data was ~5% ball speed hitting it where I am vs a better spot on the face. Plus much better spin #s. It might not by 30 yards, but it could be 15 no problem. If that can take me from 240 to 255, I'd be happy. Plus it means I'm probably not swinging as out to in.

I was mostly curious to see that data behind it. I needed to trim the shaft anyway. I cut the R15 down, so I'm currently playing the Fly-Z close to an inch longer than the thing it's replacing.

As importantly, it's one more stupid thing I can stop blaming and allow myself to focus solely on my setup and swing.

Have you considered the data of increased speed from the longer shaft (basic lever) verse short shaft / further out on the toe?

I don't know the stats, I know longer clubs are swung faster, but I also realize shorter clubs usually equal better contact / more control.

I play the short driver cause I suck enough with it short and don't mind the possible loss of distance. I have a terrible driver swing, but I usually have excellent / repetitive contact points on the face.

B) do you aim at the ball when you swing? Like literally aim at it, or does the ball just kind of get in the way? I play it like I did baseball, watching the ball until impact. Swing for the fat of the bat (or golf club) aimed at the ball. My tendency is center height, toward the toe. My club position at address is center face and I really don't worry about tee height as I am aiming to hit the ball with center face.
