A lot of the highest scorers are not guys with an (a) next to their name in the list. Does that indicate they might be teaching pro's or something, so they get to play in this, but they're not really "pro pros", right?

City, did you see the most recent Golf Digest? I think Golf Digest....it's one of those golf magazines that mysteriously shows up to my house even though I never paid for it. Anyhoo, the back page had a flow chart / decision tree for golf headwear. It starts off with "Is it Raining? Yes - Bucket Hat; No - Next Question". Then the next question is "Do you have any fashion sense? Yes - Next Question; No - Bucket Hat." You should write them an angry letter.

It also had a visor option on there, but no tour visor. So there are some flaws in the diagram to say the least.

Not sure why everyone seems to think that NW would be such a pushover track for these guys. I'd be willing to bet they had those greens slicked out as much as possible and from that yardage those are not easy greens to hit into.

Medalist any lower than 67/68 would shock me.

"Everyone" = "eagle".

I thought 67 would get in. THat doesn't mean I thought 64 would win it.

I didn't think 72 would get in, but NW from the tips is rated 75+ and from a small sample of caps I've looked at, the majority seem to be in the .5 to +1.0 range.

figured it'd be easier with the receptive greens. it was colder/breezier this am, so i expect better scoring from the afternoon starts.

64 looks like a pipe dream tho.

most surprising so far: zero eagles (that i could see). jordan eagled 8.

+2's are out. +1's are still in, but someone has to come in under par, right?

It's still pretty breezy out there.

At worst I'd sy the +1s are in a playoff. It might be warmer out than this morning but the breeze has picked up too.

second wave started going out at 12:10. i think it's a smaller 2nd half, so only 30 players left on the course.

i got $10 that says someone shoots 71 or better. quite the back down from 64, but whatevs.

i gotta get back to work, 1st to reply gets it.

On another note, our own pquarta1 is playing in the MSGA Open qualifier at worthington today. Anyone track down those scores?

edit got it:

http://tms.golfnet.c.../?eventId=11101

Sweet! Trying for both, or just the Open?

Also, BethesdaRick is playing as well!

I have no idea. Maybe just the amateur and not even the open. Maybe both.

I didn't even know that.

Very interesting. He played well Saturday. He shot 75, but that was with rolling up to the first tee at 6:40 in the morning, without hitting a ball, and making double bogey on 1. He played +1 the rest of the day.

After the round :

"Hey, PQ. . .how many times did you hit 3 wood today?"

"Zero."

"Hmmmmm. Interesting."

"I shot 75 because I MADE PUTTS."

"Yeah, 2 foot putts because you hit your driver off the tee."

He actually hit some screwy drives, but made bogey/par recoveries off them. He knows the course. Some of those holes just set up so well for his fade, though. I hope he hits it.

Harget shot 75. He used to the be the pro at Cross Creek. First guy I took lessons with after I got back into golf 10 years ago. He also showed up to my house one night because he was dating a friend of mine. I had no idea until he walked in.

He hit the ball very well at Bedford (D and 3W), and a couple saturdays ago at Norbeck, although he wasn't making many putts. He was getting angy and after his 3rd or 4th lip-out he delivered a finalist for "Angry Golfer Statement of the Year":

"BRO, I AM GETTING REALLY SICK OF ROLLING THE F'N BALL OVER THE LIP".

The BRO made it great.

He saw me practice there all the time so one night he comes out and says "we're going to see who can hit it in that bunker most out of 3 times. I win you pay for a lesson. You win I give you a lesson". I won. He started me down the right path in that lesson. Very nice guy. He had a lot of wrist problems.

Yes, he did. I tink he had surgery done at one point, but I might be confusing him with someone else. TOo many wrists around here.

I want to go play in a qual with him and beat him and go, "ahhh so, the student has become the master".

I played him front side at Cross Creek once and he gave me a stroke a hole. He beat me. He used to drive a jetta that ran on vegetable oil.

You know, for 7300 yards, none of those holes individually seems like anything crazy. None of the 5s are too long. Most 4s are in the 450 range, which isn't any longer than the longest par 4s on most courses from the blues. But there are 5 or 6 of those type of holes instead of 1.

I'd imagine #5 plays as the toughest par 4. It's 10-15 yards shorter than #2 and #10, but those both play downhill with a much easier approach shot.

so far, #1 hardest hole is #3. second hardest is #7. only 1 eagle out there so far (#8).

can't deny that i'm fascinated by this qualifier at NW.

PQ likely just made the turn a little bit ago. hoping he does well.

I remember that Jetta. I always assumed cross creek paid him nothing. I think he became involved in a relationship and quit teaching golf to become a School teacher.

can't deny that i'm fascinated by this qualifier at NW.

I hear you. I'm fascinated by the MSGA stuff because the bottom third of that field is like one (two?) step up from me. The top guys LOL at me

you're gonna laugh, but it's primarily due to the course. i've been lucky enough to have played WM a few times when it's getting ready to host a USOpen qualifier... and i just had no chance to do anything (see 'eagle sitting down in 14th fairway pic' - and that wasn't when WM was showing all it's teeth either).

i've played NW under 'tournament' conditions from the blues and played pretty well.

so, it surprises me that they aren't going lower.

...

i wonder what everyone thinks about the 90° dogleg 13th hole, lol.

Hate that hole. Hate the course.

One thing I find interesting is that legit top Ams basically never post scores. Look up Chen and WArnquist. Chen doesn't post unless it's a tournament. WArnquist reached the final of the USGA four ball last year. He's super super legit. Didn't post a single August or September score.

I got through airport security with literally 0 people in front of me aom drinking alone. These qualifiers being today is nice. Gives me something to do

Also I had my recovery round back from a little bad back spat yesterday. Shot 89. 7? Three putts. Got a little more confident with the back on the back and shot 40! Lol. I actually feel like my swing is in good shape. Just gotta get right and stay there

Think Im finally dry from Saturdays round at Bristow. Was my first experience with the DCGT and it did not let down in anyway. Pretty much anybody you run into, are nice people and everything is run very well by Eagle. Weather was clearly not ideal, but every single person out there seemed to have a good time and got in some good golf.

I played with Eagle, Sully and DC and while I normally don't feel all that comfortable playing with new people off the bat, I did not feel out of place or any nerves as they are all really quality guys. Was pretty easy to fall in with the 3 of them. Eagle, is a great partner and very calm to play with, helps keep things low key and simple. Very easy and efficient game to watch and rolls the ball well, got robbed on a few bombs that should have went in. Sully also has a very consistent game and had a Kegan Bradley look nailed down Saturday with the Visor and build, good driver off the tee and not sure what shaft was in his driver previously, but he hit the new combo really well. Everything else down to the putter was solid as well. DC hits his epic well off the tee, was never really off target much and he does work with the single length cobras. He had a really nice probably 25-30 footer for birdie from the fringe-ish area on 12.

All three were good players and rounded a really fun foursome even with some harsh weather at certain points. All in all if you can get out to an event, go for it….good times ahead.

I think we all got a chuckle out of this exchange on the second par 5 on the front:

Sully "Where is the water up there"

Me (not really thinking about the situation) "You're fine, its just up by the green and behind it"

Sully "…well that is where Im trying to go with this"
