How does 1.4 or lower cap shoot 127? I wonder what the odds of that would be.

Unless the person has to finish the round with some type of catastrophic injury - ZERO. I think any legit 1.4 or lower could take a year off, and shoot lower than 127 on the actual US Open course, in tournament conditions, with an hour of warm up to shake off the rust. I mean, 127 is unfathomable.

I want one of you nerds to give an actual probability estimate.

I bet one is more likely to be struck by lightening.

127. Lol

Someone in the comments mentioned it was probably a "pro".

that's one of the things I mentioned a few days ago about all the highest scores at Northwest. It was almost all "pros".

Played in a couple PRMC tournaments before when some of the pros would join our annual outing. Never very good. I guess I don't understand that whole network. . .does a "pro" ever have to have taught or played, or do they just have the ability to run point of sale software?

Yeah, if you assumed something like their average score was about 2 over the course rating (say 78 here), with a standard deviation of even 5 strokes, you're talking about a guy about 9 standard deviations above the norm. Probability of seeing a score that high if in fact the guy was a 1.4. . .less than .00000000000000001.

IOW, reject the NULL HYPOTHESIS.

To get your Class A you need to pass the PAT but that should be laughably easy for a real 1.4. But certainly there are a ton of teaching "professionals" out there who have nothing to do with the PGA or any sort of certifications.

Even for guys that have their Class A, there are different paths you can take. Like, at a lot of clubs you'll have a "Head Golf Professional" and a "Head Teaching Professional" or something to that effect. One guy is more running the operations of the club, versus the guy who likes being out on the range teaching all day.

And I know more than a few teaching pros who would say the best thing to do to ruin your golf game and play virtually no golf is to become a teaching pro.

I think the PAT requires 10 over rating from the white/men's standard tees. Lots of us could be pros.

Pros generally don't play a ton of golf. They're running a business and watching people suck.

Some a very good players. The PGA club professional championship shows us this. 20 of them get to play in the PGA championship.

But, yeah, there are a lot of pros who aren't any better than, or as good as, some of the guys on this here thread.

Pretty sure you can't just check "pro" on the entry form, Sneak. That'd be a bold move though.

I think this is the thread I read about this in:

http://www.golfwrx.com/forums/topic/1108485-changing-am-status-after-qualifying-for-us-open/?do=findComment&comment=10552413

As I read it. You can declare yourself as a professional (not PGA certified, just eligible to receive prize money) and the handicap requirement goes away. Now after this you can't compete in any of the am or mid-am qualifiers. And you will most likely get the "letter" if you don't actually have the game.

What's working: My car. I got a new one and I can get to the course much faster now.

What's not working: Mostly everything else. Need to practicepracticepractice, which I've been doing more of the past couple weeks. Hopefully it'll come together soon

GTTh: game is looking solid. Basic chips probably need the most work.

My cap has been going up mostly due to some good scores falling out of my recent 20. I wouldnt wamt to play against current me in the Cap Cup with the strokes Ill get. That said, I havent really played a solo round in awhile where I have to piece it all together. Scramble and shambles for DCGT recently.

GTTh: My ball striking has been pretty solid. My chipping/pitching and putting are ATROCIOUS. I don't see it getting consistently better with no pracky sesh time (read in City's voice). Yesterday, me and City played a match. He won 2&1... I took a 6 from 90 yards on 12, 3 putt 13, and missed a 4 foot par putt on 14. Match giveaway, blue light special. Story of my game right now. I ain't stupid, I'm doopid.

GTT: Well, I feel like I could play Northwest from the tips and break 127. Who knows though? I played horribly on Saturday at Stoneleigh. But I played pretty well in my 2 league matches. Feel pretty good about my putting and chipping. Gotta do a better job of not spraying the driver. And it'd be nice to hit more greens.

GTTH: I feel like my game is above average in almost all aspects right now - including putting, which is a rarity for me. I hit three terrible wedge shots at Bristow but after two range seshs this week, I wont get too wound up over them and will blame it on the weather. But twice at Bristow I had a 56* in my hand from 80 yards or so and left it a good 10 yards short.

The one handed practice stroke has really helped my putting though, a lot more tap ins for 2nd putts.

Need to get out and practice my bunker play a lot more though. Once it stops raining next week I am thinking about going in for a short game lesson. Although since its at Creighton Farms I would try to talk myself into a playing short game lesson...
