Fujikura Speeder Evolution 661 Tour Spec Question

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I've been searching and searching and have conflicting answers. If anyone knows for sure could you help me out?

  1. What is the difference between the 661, 661 EVO, and 661 EVO TS? I have the 661 and assumed the 661 EVO is just smoother and that the 661 EVO TS is the same thing as the 661 EVO but just lower spin/launch. However, when I looked on Fujikura's website it appears to be the opposite based on the stats? Does anyone have playing experience with any of these or know?
  2. Is the stock shaft (661 EVO TS) in the R15 TP the real deal shaft from Fujikura? I am more concerned about comparing the actual specs on the website as the TM website does not have the specs. Some people say it is the real deal some people say it just looks like the real deal but plays differently.

thank you

The Evolution has a new material compare to the the Speeder.

So just better materials? I was researching the EVO and the new material was supposed to improve feel (smooth) and slightly increased speed? However, I have never experienced one in person

I called Fujikura a few weeks ago with the exact same question concerning the 2014 757 vs 757 Evo vs 757 Evo TS. In a nutshell, this is what they told me. Using the 2014 757 as the baseline, you can expect a slightly smoother feel out of the 757 Evo and ~2mph more ball speed (this is due to a new material/manufacturing process in the Evo but I don't recall the exact details). The 757 Evo TS is similar to the 757 Evo but will play roughly 1/2 flex stiffer and thus launch a little lower with little less spin.

That said, concerning the 2014 757 vs the 757 Evo TS, I'd say that Fujikura was right on. I was playing an X 2014 757 in my driver and wanted something slightly softer/smoother. I was considering getting another 2014 in S and tipping it 1-2" when I stumbled across a 757 Evo TS in S (this is what prompted my aforementioned call to Fujikura). I decided to give the TS a shot and I'm glad that I did, it was exactly the feel and the flex that I was looking for.

As for your second question... I can't say for sure. I've heard that these are the real deal but never directly from Fujikura or TaylorMade so, consider the source.

[/quote] the better feel is a bonus. Performance is definitely better although the trajectory was a tad higher.

Great! This is exactly what I needed to know. The only problem is I just won a 661 EVO TS and concerned about the flex being a little stiffer. I liked the smoothness and feel of the 2014 661 so maybe the EVO will provide enhanced feel allowing me to play it a bit stouter. I feel that the 2014 661 I have to be almost near perfect. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to try it out.

I actually would like a higher trajectory. However the TS I won plays stiffer and launches lower. We'll see what I can do about the launch when I get it.
