Can anyone provide an update on the conditions at Shennecosset? I am thinking about taking a ride up there, but would appreciate some intel before committing. Thanks.

was just there last weekend. greens really good shape - only part of course that gets watered. ball rolls good - true. Rest of course drier and dustier than normal - no rain this summer and no irrigation up there. so you get all kinds of lies in and around the fairways. We had a nice day - i love the course layout. always a great day

It's a great course. I think there are some stretches on the front nine, specifically the third through ninth (the latter pictured above in a beautiful photograph) that are of architectural substance. It's a shame that maybe the best land on the property, across the street from the clubhouse and along the river, is filled with the worst holes on the course. They're contrived and kind of fold in on themselves. The worst of the bunch is the uphill 17th, which is a sleepy mid-iron, wedge.

It's my understanding that the course sold some land to Pfizer (I believe this is the area behind the third green and fourth tee), and as a result lost some holes. The land across the street was purchased and those holes developed to make up for those lost with the sale. I'd love to know a bit more about it's original layout.

As I'm thinking, I believe the back also has a fantastic short one-shotter. It's the 12th I think, if I'm recalling correctly.

Well, after Googling, I've found some interesting stuff. It was only in 1997 that they did the deal with Pfizer. Here's the original routing, followed by the current. Interesting that it'd changed a bit more than I would have originally anticipated:

That's pretty remarkable! Never knew #15, 16 and 17 weren't part of the original (or former) design.
