Fairway Wood and Shaft combination/Slower swing speeds only

I am interested in responses from those Average Joes who have had success with fairway woods with lighter shafts. They can be stock or installed shafts. Currently, I am using the Callaway Big Bertha V series 5 wood with the MR Bassara 52 and like it quite a bit. But, I would like to be able to hit a 16 to 18 degree club with a lighter graphite shaft for my fairway wood. I also have liked the Aldila Tour Blue in the Callaway X2 Hot but it is a little on the heavy side and is making its way out of my bag. I might experiment with the V series head and another shaft.

 

In my driver, I have found that the Miyazaki B Asha 3R as a great lightweight shaft for my K15 driver head but I tried to have the same shaft installed in an older TM Burner steel 3 wood head with just moderate results. Any other suggestions would be great.

 

Again, my driver swing speed is 85mph but play to a 9 handicap, so I am not interested in high swing speed, heavy shaft suggestions. Thanks much.

I'm a big fan of the Aldila NVS shaft. Very lively for a smooth, slower swing. High trajectory and good for added distance.
Inexpensive, too!

I'm a fan of the Aldila rip Phenom. Not counterbalanced like the Tour Blue so noticeably lighter and very similar flex although just a touch softer feeling. I personally play the 60 gm version but I've also seen a lot of positive feedback on the 50 gm version as well.

Go to a softer flex for the 3 wood(senior). A low profile/shallow face like the V-series launches easier off the deck than an X-hot (deeper face). I have 93 mph driver and play a Aldila Phenom 55g I bought from RBG for $10 in a Cobra Baffler XL 16* 3 wood and wouldn't trade it for anything. The flex and shallow face will change your fairway wood game enormously.

Hello Kyle. I believe I bought the TM Burner Steel head from you. Still love the head but it just did not work with the Miyazaki B Asha shaft. A little too light.

So, you bought the Aldila RIP Phenom in senior flex and put in the Baffler XL? I tried the Baffler driver without much love or results but maybe the fairway wood is better. Could this shaft be installed on the V series 3 wood?

Late to the party but the phenom and v series head should both be .335. So they would be a match. Very few shafts these days are .350 except for a few fairway woods.

^^^^^ This....I always recommend going with one flex softer with a fairway wood than the driver....though irons are the same as the driver, the fairway wood ought to be whippier for a smoother swing.
