Better GPS Watch

I have a gift certificate to use, and I have decided to get a GPS watch. I can get either a garmin Approach S2, or a SkyCaddie Sport series watch without putting any money with it. Does anyone have any positives or negatives of either of these two watches?

Since you didn't mention how much either of the 2 are going to cost, where your gift certificate is to, it's kind of hard to give an opinion. I have no experience and can find no information on the Skycaddie "Sport" model. As far as I know, Skycaddie usually charges a yearly subscription in order to get more features than basic FMB yardages. I regularly play with a few guys who have the S2, and they have had them for a few years. They seem pretty accurate and have the guys have had no mechanical issues.

The reason I inquired about price and where you are buying is, there might be models with more features available for a small out of pocket cost. For example, Golfsmith currently has the S2 at $179, but you can get either the S4 or S20 for $199, and either of those are loaded with more features (longer battery life, smart notifications, better resolution screens, stat tracking, etc.).

Out the 2 options you mention, I'd lean towards the Garmin, but as I said, I have no personal knowledge of the Skycaddie.

That's kind of what I was referring to, either that or the S4. Not knowing the details of his gift card/certificate makes it tough to give good advice. For all I know, it may be clubhouse credit at a green grass pro shop and those are his only 2 options that they have in stock?

Then I would say S2, Good luck finding one for that, you may still need to kick in a few bucks out of pocket.

There are a several places around my area selling them for $109. I assume they are selling them this low to make room for the new ones coming out.

I have the Bushnell NeoXS and its great. I think they can be had for $149 right now. Just a thought...

I've just brought one as well. I was using a Garmin S4 but the battery wont hold a charge anymore and after 14 holes it dies. Really impressed with the battery life on the Neo XS. Played a round Sunday morning, then it was left on in normal watch mode, played again Monday morning and after that round it was still displaying 25% battery left. Even brand new the Garmin wouldn't last more than one and a half rounds.

Could be. But look at Golfsmith, GG, PGA Superstore and they are all right around $179. There is a minimum these are going to go down to on these sites, because they aren't going to sell them for negative dollars. If you can pick up either for close to $100, I don't think you'll be too disappointed, as long as all you want is FMB.

Im a really big fan of the bushnell watches too. I know they are coming out with the neo iON watch soon so the other ones may come down in price shortly.

Used the S2 all last yr. Loved it! Got 2 rounds out of the battery. Only got 2 rounds out of my Sky Caddie too. Charge and go, love it. Sky Caddie was a P.I.T.A.! Would highly recommend Garmin!
