enterprise like putter straight from the R&D

I was in austin texas at golfsmith and got to see a new putter design that has the code name USS enterprise (for obvious reasons). Now s a club builder i was wondering from you the golf wrx comunity what type of price will the market bear for this Star Trek design? based on its extremely high MOI and its unique design.

Functionally it sets up great and has the highest MOI of any putter they’ve ever developed at golfsmith.

Hope you guys enjoy the sneak peak straight from the R&D and enjoy lookin at a completely unique puter design.

Not at any price -- besides the fact that you'd go blind without any pleasure using it outside, the piece is one only a mother could love and the mass is spread so far around, that you'd have to whack it hard to make the ball go.

Why not do it in all matte black finish? That thing is pretty ugly. If I made more putts with it I'd use it though. LOL As far as prcie I'd say 60 or 70 bucks. No offense but I can't see someone paying more than that for a Golfsmith named putter.

 

Edit: And the grip is the ugliest grip I've ever seen!!! Must lose that grip!!!

It might sell at a Star Trek convention but I can't see any semi-serious player using one. Just think of all the crap you would have to put up with the first time you pulled that out of your bag.

The design is quite unique. I don't mean that in a bad way. Guys I play with will testify, I've tried almost every putter known to mankind. (Some very odd ones at that)

 

I think it could be improved. The only connection between the face and the weight is the thin body holding the weights. If I remember correctly, to optimize the MOI you would want the weight as far back and apart and as low as possible. Might it be better to have the body above the weights?

 

The feel of a putter is a very subjective thing. Karten Solheim did an experiment with Pros and AM's once, where he put ear muffs on them and had them hit various putter designs. (the pros tended to prefer slightly heavier putters) Most golfers perception of FEEL is the sound the ball makes when it hits the face. It would be wise to spend a little extra time on how this putter sounds in order to help it sell and overcome any objections to its radical design.

There's actually a lot to like about this putter. Obviously, it's a high MOI design to offer forgiveness on off-center hits. The two weight bars are spaced wide enough so that it probably frames the ball pretty well--even better than on the 2-Bar putter IMHO.

 

There are a couple things that I don't like though. The hosel was placed in a very awkward location. It's obviously intended to be a center-shafted putter, but since the alignment line is placed on a lower plane than the topline, the body of the hosel appears to cut-off the alignment line. The alignment line is too short and it doesn't extend to the face. This might be remedied slightly by adding another smaller alignment line on the topline. Also, I hate inserts.

It would be a bigger seller if applied a non glaring finish. A la Pro Platinum or Cold Star.

 

Give it white sight lines (perpendicular in back of top line and existing black line to white in the body of the putter/ship)

But the Golfsmith name on it means it better be cheap or people just won't buy them.

After playing High MOI putters like the Bobby Grace GT series I´m prepared for any kind of weird look....

 

IMHO this design is easier on the eye than the Futura or the GT series and I think that placing the weight higher and not on the bottom of the putter will promote a better roll.

I agree with many of the previous posts that a non-glare finish is a must and maybe a white sightline and the option of changing the weights to adjust it to personal preferences could be useful improvements.

LOL that's quite humourous. I feel that way about every putter I've ever owned, which is more than several. If it puts the ball in the hole better than what I have now, I'd be using it. I actually think it's quite imaginative in a "too much time on my hands" kinda way.

I think it's very cool. I'm down with the concept and I think this is a nice physical representation of high MOI.

 

I'd tweak it bit, though. I agree with the many other opinions about the finish...I'd love to see this black. I would also eliminate the sight line on the middle piece and go with a dot on the top of the blade. I think it would also look really cool to mill some weight out of the middle piece...give it kind of a Futura type feel. Throw in a couple sets of various weight interchangable barrels and you got yourself a pretty cool package. Props to Sheets and crew. OUT....

i also got the chance to hit the putter while i was in texas and it rolls the ball very true and it also has very good feedback. from the top the bars help with alignment. i have to say tht when it comes out im going pick on up. but i think this is great design and i think the feedback is grea....
