changing shafts in 77 staff iron

wondering if anyone has experience changing shafts in these blades ? They are threaded. I want to put stiff shafts in they currently

have R but I sure do NOT want to end up losing these babies...help ??

Can't really help you, but the shafts on my Staff blades are labelled R, but by feel, and from what I've been told, are stiff.

what yr are your staffs ? I can tell diff with my R shafts in these staffs compared to say Apex 4 (stiff) shafts

in my Hogan Apex 73's...but I do like the feel of the R and at my age/swing speed wonder if R is more beneficial

over 18 holes for fatigue reasons as I walk.

If you just want longer shafts, you can get them extended (or do it yourself if you have the know-how). Extending them won't change the flex. I got a set of Mizuno MS-11s extended 3/4 of an inch, and they play fine. The extension is added to the butt, so the grips have to come off.

Sorry, the threaded hosel would scare the _ out of me too.

Best suggestion would be to take them to a machine shop and have them bore the threads out.

I have reshated the Wilsons several times, the key for me is having a drill press and the attached hosel reamers, makes it a snap for making the shaft fit, I find that even some of the early Hogans need to be reamed a bit so the tool makes it very easy http://www.golfworks.com/spiral-fluted-reamers/p/GW0115/

I remember Froth posting about dealing with threaded hosels on FG17s, decided to do a search to see if I could find one of his posts about the subject. I think this may offer a bit of help:

One thing I'd add, I think you don't need to fabricate something as he did, you just need to know which direction you have to rotate the clubhead, once you've broken the epoxy bond. Which is something he mentions, I believe. :)
