Just saw on their website they have an associate membership for $500 + $35 green fee per round. No minimums or joining fees. No voting rights, and cannot play in member tourneys either. After 10am weekdays and 12:30 weekends/holidays. I did the math and would need to play 64 rounds for it to equal out to the yearly membership (before food minimums). For someone like me that just wants to play golf and not deal with leagues all the time on the other local courses... this seems like a hard deal to pass up for a private club... where weekday afternoons would probably mean just walking up and playing. Which are pretty much just Mon/Tues/Wed. and maybe the odd afternoon weekend.

Really nice course along the Taunton River, with some very scenic holes. Very historic, too. Played by Vardon, Ouimet and Jones. My Brother-in-Law has been a member there for years. Played a couple of times as his guest and definitely enjoyed it.

Saw this as well, plus some really reasonable full membership rates. Not familiar at all w the course but it's a short ride from me.

 

Have a couple of friends considering as well but they're a good 45-50 min drive from FR.

 

For me this would be more about finding a game and playing sub 4 hour rounds again.

Exactly why I'm considering it, being private, I would *hope* the rounds would be sub 4 hour.

It's a great deal and they've gotten a very good response.

 

Other threads ("future of private clubs") are probably more appropriate for my thoughts on whether this type of promotion is a good idea. It has recruited 25+ genuine new members. And more downgrades than the board anticipated.

 

Some notes:

1) I'd only expect the membership to last two years

2) I'd expect it to go up pretty significantly next year

3) They've announced internally the rules will be very strictly enforced

 

Let me know if you'd like to visit the course. Always looking for an excuse to go out.
