Really suprised it has taken this long with the goofy swing. Too bad she didn't get her first win before this started. Won't be the last unless she completely scraps this swing.

I agree.... I was joking with my friends few weeks back about her swing might harm her.... and it happened. It's too bad that she was one of the beauty to watch ....

I think they are just assuming based on the torque (it looks like) she puts on her back with her swing.

You're right it was probably the posing for her swimsuit calendar that caused the disk problems---much more abuse to the back than that classic swing she uses.

I'm amazed she hasn't not only thrown out her back but her hips and knees. Her swing is hardly a well oiled machine. Nor is her putting stroke. Sighhhhh...and people wonder why she hasn't won yet. In my opinion, she'll never win leading a tourney but if she ever does, it'll be a lucky swinging day come from behind.

You would think one of the best swing coaches in the world "Butch Harmon" would be able to notice if someones swing was going to do undue harm to thier body. I don't know maybe I'm wrong.

One of the reason's that Butch is considered one of the world's best coaches is because he doesn't try to teach all of his students one swing. Instead, he is able to take their natural swings and tweak them to bring out the best in his students. If you look at his students who have experienced success on the major league level, they all have different swings. (Obviously, I don't know this first hand. I'm just repeating what I've heard on TV from several golf analysts.)

 

But also, over the past few years, he has gotten Gulbis to get her swing more upright and less severe.

I agree with the speculation that her swing is the culprit. And we don't know how much Butch was trying to change it - that is - unless someone here attended their sessions.... With such manipulation during the swing, all it would take is a really off day and baye bye back.

 

On a similar line, Paula Creamer is another one who may be headed down that line.

Tiger has also started that dipping with his irons occasionally like Creamer does all the time (not as severe but certainly Byron Nelsonish). But as we all know any critique of Tiger's swing "is a goes nowhere thread" according to many on this site. "You can't tug on superman's cape".
