As an American who never thought it would actually happen, and haven't really followed it bc it was "impossible," what was the reason?

Was it primarily immigration? Or are there economic benefits to the UK I don't see/ understand?

Immigration, no doubt.

This country is a load of closet, screaming rascists. Much like any other country i'm supposing, lol.

Voted for remain. BTW.

Hilarious how controlling your borders means you are a racist - that was the single argument for the remain campaign - that is part of the reason it lost.

We are pumping many millions more into the EU than we get back - and our schools and hospitals are out the door with migrants. The once great NHS is about to fall apart as it cannot cope with the amount of people, and healthcare is free here.

Is it racist to complain about being unable to get a doctors appointment when I need one after paying my taxes here for 20 years?

Everybody.......

Would you please welcome Mr Nigel Farage to the board. ^^^^

Had doctors app this morning, strangely, for my daughter. Booked just fine, for today, no probs. Don't believe all you read in 'The Mail'.

That's why I love living in Montreal, where's there's absolutely no talk of separation from anything.

The truth is nobody knows what the benefits are or if there will be any at all. It seems that some opportunists have seized theirs and now we all have to ride the whirlwind.

On another note, below is an example of the problem with democracy.

That simply cannot be true. And the Newcastle - Sunderland comment... I'm dumbfounded.

Certainly they'll be working hard to get all the free-trade agreements working ASAP but there will be some interesting issues coming up anyway.

Chamberlain failed, Churchill did a good job but was voted out the first time, Thatcher wasn't much good, neither was Blair, Brown was quite unpopular and now Cameron is driving Scotland and N.I. towards independence and destroying the UK. If I remember right Attlee was a good man for the job bringing the Kingdom out of the war and making plenty of reforms for a stable peace time. Was Major any good? The list of PMs isn't very convincing.

As an outsider, it seems like economic suicide.

The UK was an economic powerhouse during colonization, and slowly lost influence as it released colonies. The island, while lovely and damp, (at least when I have been there), doesn't have a lot of natural resources. The success came from free raw materials they were able to turn into completed goods to be sold. By leaving the EU, won't these goods be taxed more heavily, thereby driving up prices of the those goods and losing competitiveness on the open market.

I sure love your golf courses, and I love the fact you have taken Turnberry off the rota, but this seems like a xenophobic shot to your own foot. Perhaps a quick re-assessment of the national mood might bring Turnberry back in. Let's make Trump Turnberry Great Again!

Good luck UK, I hope I am wrong, but I can't see this (without any changes) as being a positive for anyone.

And thank you for the replies, I appreciate it.

The UK made its money from its own coal in the north and Scotland.....the industrial revolution. Still there now and its high rank coal, but Thatcher killed that. And I don't think turnberry has been struck off, but murifield has.

While I'm no Tory, major was the main starter for the good Friday agreement. Mo did an unbelievable job and Blair took the credit when in truth had little to do with it. Thatcher for us northern mining towns was a disaster, she destroyed communities and the strikes my granddad and dad went through are still painful to many. Brown was unpopular but saved the UKs bacon by selling aload of gold and stopping a real debt disaster.

We'll see what happens next!

Don't be pissed because of Brexit - you got outvoted, you are just in the minority, it happens. The people voted, all 17 million of them. Don't believe all you heard in the scaremongering media, the UK will be just fine without the crumbling EU shackles around its ankles.

PBS analysts are making it seem like its the 1930s in Europe coming.

Absurd, no?

Left media trying to make the decision they would have opposed seem outrageous, not really that absurd. Fear monger

Obviously if the situation was flipped you'd see it the other way

Good decision financially. The EU is flawed in that member nations are connected financially but not legislatively. So countries like Greece can live irresponsibly while UK and Germany supply bailout after bailout. At some point enough is enough. The UK was fine before, and they will be again.

These analysts were not liberal. Brexit is a big win for Russia.

Who thinks that Brexit is positive from a global security perspective?

No conservative hawks, I assure you.

Sorry, I just saw PBS and figured it would be left leaning, probably should have actually watched before I commented and looked like a fool.
