Is anyone Ampidextrous? Is thers such thing as a golfer who plays with both hands? Like putt left handed, but drive right handed? I always thought that would be a huge advantage..especially if your ever stuck up against a tree..cause it always lands on the side, where you can't hit it..without switching hands, that is..

Notah Begay has a Titleist bullseye putter than can be used both ways. He putts left or right handed depending on the line.

I think i'm right in saying that before he turned pro, Justin Rose played off +5 right handed and scratch left handed.

I can hit left handed shots now and then but I certainly couldn't hit a full shot with a driver or even worse, a long iron!

I'm left handed at everything but play golf right handed. There just wasn't clubs readily available in lefty when I was a kid, so I used my older brother's, who plays right. I'm also right eye dominant, but shoot a gun left handed, which means I rarely connect! Anyway, I didn't hear anybody mention Johnny Miller, he's also a left hander, that plays right.

I had one of those 10 minute lessons that the PGA was promoting a month or so ago, and the pro told me, after I told him I was a lefty playing right, that my problems with pitching the ball that I mentioned, was because it was an unnatural motion for me on that side. Certainly, pitching a ball underhanded for me is easier with my left. Now I have an excuse for those stubbed shots.

I'm left handed and left eye dominant, but play right handed. The only things I do lefty are write and shoot. Swing, kick, etc, all right-handed.

It's the way that I learned, but I've found out that it helps since my dominant eye is over the ball when putting.

Write and eat left-handed. Most everything else do right-handed... or both ways. Play golf right-handed. Throw a ball right-handed. Used to carry a Ithaca 37 shotgun with bottom ejection so I could shoot right or left... didn't make any difference. Have an old Bullseye putter that I will practice with left-handed. Seems to smooth out the righty stroke.

Played with an older gentleman some years ago who played lefty. We seemed to hit it off pretty well and he was one of the better lefties I had played with. I made some off-the-wall joke or comment about him being a lefty. He said he had always played right-handed until he had a hip replaced. Could never seem to get through the ball after the replacement. Picked up a lefty club one day and swung it. He could make a full turn. Switched to lefty and never looked back. Said his handicap was lower than it had ever been as a righty.

As far as we "true" lefties.... Remember, everybody is born into this world left-handed and remain that way until they commit their first sin. Very few of us left!!!!

My uncle and one of my good friends are both left handed. They both golf right handed, but put left handed. Works well for them.

I switched to putting left handed for about half a season last year. I was actually a lot more accurate, but I found that I couldn't judge how hard to hit the ball nearly as well. Needless to say, I put right handed again, but with new equipment :D

I write, throw, play tennis etc with my right hand, but play golf left-handed. Tried both ways when I started playing at age 15, but left-handed just felt so much more natural, probably because I used to play hockey that way.

However, I putt right-handed with my left hand low... and my putting is pretty good...

golf righty, write lefty, bat righty, throw lefty, drum righty, use scissors lefty, play guitar righty, play ping pong righty, play volleyball with whichever hand feels good that day. I've played some sports (tennis and raquetball) where I sometimes literally forget what hand to hold the raquet with.

I like to think I take ambidexterous to a new level.

I too am left-handed but play right-handed. I am also right eye dominant. The reason for my opposite approach is my mom. She was the one to teach me how to do everything from throwing, shooting a basketball, swinging a bat. So when it dawned on me to try golf I had already been well established as a right handed hitter.

Now my daughter who is 4 years old, is right-handed with most things. She prefers to golf left-handed. When I inquire as to why she likes being left handed with her golf swing, she says it feels better to her. I wonder if at some point she'll switch to a right handed approach.

As far as anything I struggle with due to my left hand being the "control", is probably club face angle at impact. In the standard right handed swing the right palm matches the club face. In my particular swing, my instructor and I, have determined that my left hand can get a little too active through impact. This causes the club face to shut, and net me some nasty hooks. Normally it doesn't happen but when things break down on the course, I usually resort back to my handsy approach to attempt to correct anything off with that day's swing.

I have found that for my golf swing I have a better time latching onto instruction in terms of my left side. You know like left hand, left knee, left hip, left shoulder, left arm and their postitions through the swing, rather than a mixture of left and right.

Left handed and Golf Right. I write, eat and throw left. Swing a golf club, bat, play hockey, and shoot right. I was told years ago when I got lessons as a kid that it would be easier for me because I was pulling down with my dominant hand, and that was part of the reason I could hit the ball so far. It never seemed strange to me, maybe because I learned at such a young age.
