Top Flite D2 Feel vs Srixon AD333

Minarets

Recommended Posts

D2 is a great ball actually. Surprisingly straight and long off the tee. It feels soft, and putts well. Not a ton of spin like a ProV, but enough to check it nicely. The best thing about this ball is the durability! I used one ball for 2 rounds and it would have passed as a new ball.

Put it this way, inside my bag I have a bunch of ProV1s, HX Tours, and D2s. :bad:

I love the ad333...yep 2 for 25 bucks most places now....it doesn't baloon on me with my swing...good distance, and greenside spin is quite nice....i have played bridgestone e5+, tm burner tp, and ad333 lately...the ad333 doesn't have quite as much spin as the e5+, or burner tp in my opinion but it still holds the greens very well for me. The d2 feel i liked off of the driver ok...but it doesn't hold the greens for me like i want it to ...others love it though.
my vote goes to the ad333 though mainly due to price vs performance (for my swing) out of the balls i mentioned

So I had been using what I thought was the cheapest/best golf ball for the price, the Pinnacle Platinum Feel based off of the impressive golf digest tests and its uber low $12/dozen price. I had been doing okay with it this year and it was the ball that got me to break 50 and 45 (I usually play 9).

Anyways, I have been rapidly improving and attempting to break 40 with many close calls (42s and 40s) early in the year but no luck and the last few times out I did terrible (48, 53 :( 46). So I figure its time for something new, I see this thread and give the D2 feels a shot. Keeping in mind I was driving really well today and chipped much better than usual. I broke 40. I shot a 38 including 2 birdies to finish my 9. I know its not all in the ball, but these seemed to go further and slightly straighter than the pinnacles. I dont produce enough spin with my wedges to notice any difference in that area. It may not be an end all/cure all but it seemed to work okay for me.

dbl bogey, par, bogey, par, par, par, bogey, birdie, birdie

The dbl bogey was a shanked SW that went OB, the 1st bogey was a due poor SW approach shot that landed well short of the green and the 2nd bogey was due to a shanked LW after nearly driving a par 4.

Ha, I was just reading the press release linked above for the 2007 AD333 version. Apparently they need better proofreading:
Aerodynamics:
The new 333 aerodynamics features six different dimple sizes with larger dimple diameters and greater dimple surface coverage. This helps reduce distance by robbing high-speed drag and promoting a shallow angle of descent for greater carry and roll.
I've played both, but it's been awhile for the D2. The AD333 was the ball of choice for most of the summer, but I wasn't overly thrilled with anything it did. It was good enough, but not great in any one area. I switched to the Noodle+ and I think I have found my winner. A bit straighter than the AD333, I guess because it spins a bit less, and it checks up okay on the greens (I am in no way shape or form good enough to mess with backspin, so a tour ball or higher spinner ain't my cup of tea). The biggest difference between the two is that the Noodle+ is stupid long. By far the longest ball for me. Off of each club actually. It stops okay, but it's more of a hit and roll 3-4 feet rather than a backup 3-4 feet. The greens I play are soft enough to hold just about anything so the Noodle is king, for now. I'm sure I will want something else sooner rather than later.

I agree, Noodle+ is loooooong and soft. Does not hold on the greens too good but very predictable. Maybe my new Vokey SM will get them to stop ;-)

As soon as I get hold of the new AD333 ('10) I will compare my personal shortlist (noodle+ and AD333) and decide. Well, here in Germany the Noodle is 40% less than the Srixon....

talk about a blast from the past. its been 2 years since i started this thread.

anyway, i have yet to try the AD333! i really like the D2 Feel and for $13/15balls is tough to beat.

however, i have really settled in to the Maxfli Tour Fires. they are still my favorite ball going. until those run dry, which is getting close, i will probably not buy anything else

Rather than the D2, try the Top Flite Gamer - the most unlike Top Flite ball I've hit. Long, straight soft (ish) and can get some check on the geen. Cheap as well.

i tried the Gamer thinking it would be a better ball, and for me, it was not. i got better checking ability with the D2 for some reason

I just played a round with the AD333. I'm not the best in terms of telling minute differences apart in balls, unless I'm putting. I feel that this ball is very comparable to the NXT's. Shots around the green felt pretty good. At the sale price right now of 2 for 25, plus a GG 10 off 50, I'm definitely stocking up. Comes out to 10/doz + tax for 4 doz...

Haven't tried the D2 Feel yet. I will one day, perhaps.

D2 is deep. For the value, go for the Gamer. Just played one out of a wet sand trap. Spun back on me waaaaay too far- I wasn't expecting it. For what it is, it's soft, and certainly long. They shred a bit though. For the money, there's nothing better.
