Who else hates playing in leagues and having to give strokes to guys always seem to shoot their best score against you?

Ya, that's the problem with the handicap system. It WILL be manipulated by those that will cheat to win.

 

All the leagues I play in, in fact 99% of the leagues that play at our course play by a points system not handicaps. Your required points are set over a 3 week or 3 rounds scores. Your points are adjusted up or down on a weekly basis based on your last week points. You can only go down a max of 1 point per week but you will go UP 50% of the points you scored over your required points. I've personally gone up by as many as 7 points in one week.

 

Pretty much eliminates cheating after a week or two.

Do you have your own handicapping system/formula just for your league? Set up correctly, that will pretty much eliminate any kind of sandbagging, if that's what you're claiming is going on.

 

The best leagues are run with a combo of match play and stroke play, and you play for points each week which accumulate. Set up the points correctly for the stroke play portion, combine that with proper ESC, and there will be zero incentive to sandbag.

The league I'm in has handicaps that are based on last years handicap but get adjusted during the year based on your scoring in the league to date. It does change but often times a guy will be say a normal 8 handicap but based on his league scores (9 holes) he will be a 6 or something. The setup is best ball between partners with each being worth two points (2 for a win, 1 each for a tie)

Ok, so his handicap is based on actual scores in the league. So what's the problem? He had to shoot high against *someone*.

Our league only uses scores from league rounds to calculate your handicap. Last 10 rounds less par times 85%.

I think I get the points

9 pars gets you 18 points but what is the quota?
