i am playing off 3 at the moment but i dont think i am making enough birdie's would any1 consider 1 way of helping that is buy going to the gym getting big and then just blasting the ball weather it being in the fairway, semi-rough or rough and haveing as little club left in as possible.

any comments would be greatful

Since you are playing off of a 3 you should know where your problems are. How many putts per round do you have? GIR? Fairways? Driver distance at max?

 

I usually hit about 305 on the fly and would trade about 10 yards for some more accuracy, I have a very quick tempo and when I slow it down everything gets worse. I play off of a +2.xx index.

I had the same problem early in the year with not converting very many shots and think that you should probably think about this hard before comitting...

 

1) How straight do you hit it now? If you gave up a little control, would you be punching out? (I know it's dumb but it had to be asked)

 

2) How is your wedge game? Is it a strength or a weakness? Go out to a course, drop 3 balls at your normal driving length and 3 at your projected length and see how many you convert from each spot.

 

3) Is this really your problem? Are you expecting to stick it to a foot every time or are you really hitting 9 iron to 35 feet every time? How is your putting in comparison, meaning when you do stick it, are you converting?

 

4) When you're making birdies and bogies, what kind of holes are you making them on,are you playing the par 5's well (Green in 2 vs. Lay-up numbers), how do you play the par fours(long vs.short,etc.), and what kind of numbers are you making on par 3's

(birdie/bogy/par percentages, length of hole vs. scoring average).

 

Long story short, before you switch make sure your fixing the right thing, not just compensating for a weakness in another area.

too vague of an answer. Too make birdies and not be close to the pin on the approach means you have to be a good putter. This is why I asked how many puts per round you have. If you are dancing on the green and have long puts every time then you need to either work on your putting or your approach shot. If you need to work on your approach shot then maybe you need to start thinking about playing the slopes of the greens on your approaches and working the ball into the stick. I was an aim for the flag type person when I was around 15 but my HS coach started getting me to work with the greens on my approaches and letting the ball do its natural thing once you get it in there. It doesnt work all of the time (even for the pros) but when it does then that is when easy birdies and eagles are made. I am happy if it does it 3 to 4 times per round because that usually means I am in the 69/70 range or even lower when I am on.

All I have to say is that if you have an awesome short game birdies will come very easily
