The big 3 were originally Spaulding, Wilson, and MacGregor.

Several major champions associated with Spaulding over the years, including Bobby Jones, Johnny Miller, John Mahaffey, Nick Price, and Greg Norman.

I have Spaulding clubs played by the last 3 on Tour.

I keep seeing references to Spaulding Golf Equipment, but I can't seem to find any information about a Spaulding Golf Company.

Can anyone shed any light on this mysterious company?

I'm just off to have my tongue removed from my cheek......

Try "Spalding" as your spelling is incorrect.

TP Mills putters are Spalding

I once loaned a TP-1 Mills putter to a Tour player who won The Memorial with it.

Never got it back........not surprisingly!

Did you anything for it?

No - a loaner to the player who was a member at my club at the time.

I used to trade clubs with a couple of Tour guys back then. One guy liked Ping beryllium wedges and I'd find and trade him for his tour issued stuff.

There was also a lot of trading of McGregor persimmon woods to Tour guys, going way back. Dave Wood, before he invented the Wood Bros Texan driver, had a repair shop and Classic club selling business. In those days my job took me to places like Australia, S. Africa, and Thailand, where used clubs were plentiful. Wilson 8802 putters could be had for $20 there and sold for $hundreds in the U S. My weekends were often spent club hunting in those countries. I'd bring 'em back and trade with Dave Wood. It's how I was fortunate enough to be one of his first customers and witnessed the explosive growth of his business.

Also, way back in the 1980s, Tom Wishon had a repair shop in Bellaire, A suburb of Houston. He and his partner were the South Houston, go-to golf repair shop, and Dave Wood was the north Houston place - in Humble, Texas.

Also had Kurt Curry making custom putters and later contract production putters for Slazenger, Wilson, Hogan, etc - located in N Houston near the Woodlands, where the Houston Open was held for many years.

Great times!

Chances are that Spaulding will make a comeback by signing Jordan Speith.

That is, if he doesn't decide to join Calloway.

The irony detectors of some people obviously need recalibrating.

I see a gap. There definitely is a gap.

Maybe it's a phonetic thing. You say 'Spalding' as if it's 'spaulding' so maybe there's a bit of word blindness. You only see that attempt at that version of spelling in the US, never seen in it in the UK.

Whichever way you look at it, it's an American company so you get to spell it anyway you choose.

There are several Spaulding references for the USA, towns, mountain and even a rehabilitation hospital in Boston, but Spalding is the correct and proper title for the golf equipment started by Albert Spalding in Chicago. My Elite Pro blades are spelt the correct way.

Current Bag:

TM R7 425 driver 11.5

Cleveland Launcher #4 wood

Cobra King Hyper Steel #7 wood

BB Heavenwood # 9 wood

Titlelst DCI Black O/S irons 7 8 9 W SW, Lovett chipper

McGregor putter

Titleist Tour Soft balls
