7 rounds in 8 days

how do you deal with fatigue?
I've never played more than 2 days straight in my life but recently played 7 rounds in 8 days. By the fourth day of play I started losing it both physically and mentally. It was humid but the brief on and off rain showers helped a lot. I wasn't dehydrated but felt mentally drained. Quite frankly, I was overwhelmed by the experience and although I enjoyed playing those rounds I'd like to be able to perform to the best of my abilities the next time around. I've come to respect and admire the pro's who play multiple rounds week after week and even better those that consistently finish at the top. For those who have played multiple rounds in a row how do you deal with both the physical and mental aspects of the game? Have aerobics or strength training been beneficial to your golf game? Any advice is welcomed, thanks.

My top tips for the day.

Keep hydrated! Keep a few bottles of water in your golf bag and keep drinking (if you get to the stage where you have to drink loads out of the bottle, you're already dehydrated). At the turn, it's worth having some kind of sports/isotonic drink to get your blood sugar levels up.

Eat well. Have a good breakfast (ideally including porridge as it has a slow release), and eat something every 4 holes or so (nuts, fruit, energy bar) basically anything that will give you an energy boost.

Stretch and exercise. The stretches don't have to be anything too confusing (it'll probably put you off doing them). Just some basic 10-15 second static stretches on the right muscle groups. It's good to do a bit of weight training, someone at your local gym will advise you what's best for you but from experience, it's best to do more reps with less weight than less reps with more weight (if that makes sense).

Aside from these, don't drink too much alcohol (although I regularly have a hangover) and try to get a good nights sleep (again, easier said than done).

Hope some of this helps.

I do the same, but most are practice days. Some days im literally at the golfcourse all day. I am 15 though and on summer break. You just get used to it.

Pretty much the same here, as long as i ride a cart, i can play 54-72 holes a day and not have a problem, And i never have issues with fatigue, but keeping hydrated and eating high protein foods like banannas and peanut butter helps too. And dont drink gatorade or any sports drink untill the back nine, because it will hurt you if you dont wait.

I play almost everyday, and never have a problem with it. I don't even take care of myself when playing. Have a few beers sometimes if I don't feel to bad from the night before. Just something you are going to have to get used to. Are you way out of shape?

at our club we have an eighty three year old that plays the noon game with us every day. Just something you get used to I guess.

Drink plenty of water, cut out any soda/pop and beer. For every bottle of gatorade, drink 4 bottles of water. Cut out the greasy food as that will wear you down and make your body work harder.

My bro and I played 11 rounds in 7 days, with 3 consecutive days with doubles, though this was on our RTJ Trails trip, it was tiring but getting plenty of rest and fluid goes along ways. I know for a fact, the waitresses at the restaurants looked at me weird as I drank a pitcher of ice tea before the food arrived.

I am 59 years of age and I go to either Ireland or Scotland every year for a week of golf. We play 36 holes per day for 7 days in a row and we carry our own bags using pull-carts.

No special food or special exercise programs. We thrive in the rain and wind. I must admit that we occasionally complain of painful foot soles after all that walking. We do have a 1 hour lunch break between rounds and that enables us to get a bar room lunch (usually sandwiches). Some of us middle-aged golfers take ibuprofen prophylactically for the inevitable aches/pains.

Couple of things:

1. you have to drink a lot of water in advance, you basically are drinking for the next day /8 hours later, so water water water.

2. well, not to be too frank, but your pee should be clear. yeah, i said, it, look at it and it should be clear or else you are not well hydrated. look at your pee.

3. stay away from the booze

4. stay away from the heavy "club" food. think and eat healthy. pass up the burger 9000 for a salad with chicken in it. At the turn? club sandwich over bratwurst mystery meat thingy

5. if it is a group thing, i play things like alternate ball, etc.. even if for a few holes, it makes things interesting.

i guess there is more stuff, but this is the stuff i know, having come from competitive tennis.
