Cypress Point Yardage Book

Santiago Golf

Recommended Posts

Does any own a Cypress Point yardage book? I am not looking to buy it, but looking for some pictures. I am playing there on Wenesday and possibly again in the next two weeks. I really want to play well at Cypress and I want any help I can get.

Any course tips, would be huge.

Thank you

I've heard a lot of guys using Google Earth to measure a course they haven't seen.

And trust your caddie.

I found a google earth app for the course, so I will make something for myself if I have too (I have done it for other courses), but I would prefer something more "official" and I don't know if we are taking caddies for the first round. I playing with a member for the second, so probably will have one then.

Santiago-

You can get a lot from the card which is on line.

It is a wonderful place. Enjoy the walk....and the views.

Listen to your Caddie. Hit enough club on #16.

(By the way, in The Match in 1956, Hogan hit Driver..)

Do read the Plaque on #17.

Course is pretty straightforward except what to do on 16 and 17 tee shot.

Yeah I was looking at the Google Earth Yardage book and it didn't look to werid, but it looks like I will hit alot of 3 woods and hybrid off the tee but thats nothing new.

If I have a round going, I really half temped to go left on 16 and layup like Hogan use to do back in day, but then again if I have round going why shouldn't I give it ago.

On courses I only reasonably have a chance to play once in a lifetime I normally just go for it. First time I played 16 I hit driver on the fringe around 2 feet from going in the ocean ... made par. 10 years later I got to go again and hit 3 wood in the rough ... again 2 feet from going off the side ... chipped-in for birdie. Part of me really wants to play again ... part of me says going -1 on 16 the two times I've played it is pretty good. I'll probably make a 10 if I got to play it again.

Well Round 1 was a blast. I shot an 84. Not really all that good but I can't complain. I had one birdie and bunch putts. Didn't make a thing all day. I am going to get the unbelievable opportunity to play there again next Wednesday and Im really looking forward to it. I know what to do now and I bringing a different putter.

Thanks guys for all the help!!!!

Thanks Stinner. Um favorite hole is tough one. 3 was great par 3 (stuffed it, missed putt), 7 is even better than 15 IMO. That tee shot on 14 is so much fun, caddie gave me wrong number into the green, flew right over. Almost drove 9, was just short. Birdied 10. Its tough bro, but I'm going with 13 or 14.

18 is good hole but that tee shot is so werid looking. I hit way left and was underneath a tree and had full swing. Caddy said it was 170 and so I grab 7 iron thinking coming from the rough, just toss it up in your stance and swing easy. Like on 14, he gave the "playing" yardage without letting me know really (not his fault at all, he was perfect the rest of the day), so I was right over the flag in the back right bunker. Chunked on and two putted for bogey. So in conclusion, its like my feeling of 18 at Arcadia, its a good hole, but not a great finishing one IMO. (might banned from WRX for saying that but its been a good run)

Congrats on getting out there. Bucket list for sure. If you end up with 2 extra spots next Wednesday that just have to be filled let me know, buddy and I are playing pebble but would gladly join you lol.

If you are down there the day before and want a warm up round with a fellow wrxer we are off at noon Tuesday at Spanish, only 2 of us and last I checked the other 2 spots are open.

Enjoy round 2 dude.

I work full-time in the Monterey at course. So sadly can't play Tuesday at Spanish (I wish I could, I have played almost everywhere on 17 except there and I have no interest in playing Pebble.

Santiago-

Really.....None?

Is that due to the $$$? Condition? People?

You should play it at least once. Especially if you're out there.

Played Spanish Bay once.....

6.5 hour round. Barely made our flight.

I think we got the best of the best at Spanish and pebble.

Off at noon on Spanish on a twosome and in by 415 to have a drink and watch the bagpiper.

Off at 830 at pebble in a twosome walking. Played through a foursome on 5 and didn't wait a shot after that the entire round. Played in 4:20.

Got 98% cloudy sun except the wind and fog rolled in on 6,7,8 at pebble.

Damn those courses are a beast from the blues. Especially 8-10 at pebble.

Hope you had a great 2ND round at cypress, weather couldn't have been much better and you missed the ridiculous mess of a storm that's coming today.

the second round was blast!!! Course played completely different as the wind was going out to sea this time around and them for the last couple holes it came back around inland and was whipping. I ended shooting an 78, which was pretty good that day. I hit 12 GIR and had only 2 birdies. I hit the back of the hole and bounce out (i didn't even hit it hard, it moving pretty slow), on 6, and missed a short on 8. Was greenside in two on 10 and made par. 3 putted 11. Made a great birdie on 13 (my favorite hole). My caddied and I agree that we took not enough club on 15 and too much on 16 which led to bogey on both holes. (15 should have been an easy up and down, but blew it by 6 feet and lipped the comebacker). 16, I tried to sting a 3 wood to a left pin into a left to right wind. I should've played a high cut right at the pin instead. Then made a great up and down on 17 after shanking my iron shot towards the ladies tee on 18. Made a routine 6 iron-gap wedge par on 18.

I had blast playing one the greatest course in the world back-to-back weeks. I can't wait for another opportunity to return!

  • 1 month later...

So this course looks pretty awesome. How would one get onto this course?

You have to know a member or employee/Caddie. Employees are allowed to play the twice a month with a guest; the caddies get to play during the summer in the afternoons on most days but w/o guests. The member does not have to play with the group he/she sponsors. The are less than 30 local members in Monterey Area
