Do you track your golf game statistics?

If so which programme you use and recommend?

I'm pretty sure this has been posted before, but I searched the forums and couldn't find anything. I am interested in knowing how many of you guys keep track of your game statistics, if you find them usefull to improve your game, what do you look most at and which programme you use and would recommend (freeware/shareware)

I am pretty anal about it. I record pretty much everything around a round, # fairways hit, GIR, putts, sand saves, etc etc. I am involved with Six Sigma so I happen to have Minitab on my home and work computer which is an industrial strength statistical analysis package...but very pricey.

 

Another option is Qmacros, although it is about a 100 dollars....it is an add-on for excel and does a decent job. You could also use the statistical add-ons in excel to do some analysis...but you have to know what you are wanting to do as it is not the most user friendly in terms of usage.

 

You might do a search on google for free statistical software, or free golf software.

Yeah I track them under my own headings on Microsoft Excel, I've tried other things and the only one that works all the time is the golfdigest challenge.

 

I track Fairways Hit, Greens Hit, Shots From 100 Yards and In, Sand Shots and Putts.

From those I get F/W Hit %, GIR %, Scrambling Avg. Inside 100 Yards (Excl. Bunkers), Sand Scrambling Avg. Inside 100 Yards, Putts Per GIR and Putts Per Non GIR.

 

Then I take the 3 worst stats and concentrate on them when covering them in practice,

Since I posted my last 2 rounds my GIR is really bad!

I keep track of everything while on the course. I got this little book that works great for me. There is also some charts in the back that allows you to log all of your stats in a graph format.

^^I second the par-formance! This thing is great, easy to use, and best of all it doesn't slow down your round. I played behind a foursome on Monday that were keeping detailed yardage books (!!) and it slowed everyone down.

I've been tracking my scores/stats on www.mygolfrecord.com. Seems to do the job, and if you get your buddies to sign up too, you can track them as well.

I made a scoring sheet just in a word document. It looks similar to the Par-formance, but certainly not as durable or nice to carry. If anyone wants it, just PM.

i normally just keep all my stats on my card though... x for fairway in upper left, o for GIR in upper right, any penalties in lower left, and number of putts in lower right...

Playing devil's advocate - I don't think Tiger or Furyk or Els or Goosen ever practiced or played golf while thinking about their stats. All they probably cared about was hitting good shots and scoring.

 

If you score and play well, stats will take care of themselves.

Ya i don't do anything while on the course, i just come home and go to www.keepmygolfscore.com. It's free and it has almost all of the courses in my area programmed into the system so I can see the yardage of the hole and all of that kinda stuff. But it is really easy to use, I highly recommend that you check this site out before you pay money for something else.

I used to use another site, but they didn't have the reporting capabilities that I needed ,and they never responded to my emails (I was a paying member, too).

 

I have stats since 2004 on my site. It's interesting to see where my game has gone, and it give a good indication of what I need to work on.
