NYC Groups

Hey WRXers.

 

I moved to NYC from London almost 3 years ago. I now live in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn. It is not exactly the easiest place to live if you want to play golf. I have played sporadicly since it have been here - Dyker Beach and Marine Park are decent tracks. I bought a car recently, so that should widen the options of courses I can play.

 

It would like to play some more this year so it would be great to play with and meet some good guys. Im 33, so it would be good for me to meet some people around my age.

 

I was a 13 handicapper and club member in London. Probably playing more like a 20 right now, but keen to get back to my best this year.

 

If anyone knows of any NYC groups that get together, or even guys like myself who are looking for partners, let me know.

I moved to the area 1.5 years back , jersey city to be precise. I play every weekend in the summers, play to a 14.5 handicap. Always looking for new golfers to play with. Let me know when you are ready to start golfing . I am going to try winter golf once the temp goes high 30s to low 40s.

I'm a law student, live in downtown Manhattan, and play to a 12 handicap. Always looking for a good group of guys to play with, so hopefully it'll get warm soon. But in the meantime, also down to meet up at a simulator somewhere and hit the balls around over some beers. The Brooklyn courses (Dyker Beach & Marine Park) can get very crowded, like 5-6 hours rounds, so I usually try to play very early and some of the less crowded places:

• Silver Lake (Staten Island) - SI ferry for free and 10 min Uber ride
  
• Skyway Golf (Jersey City) - Path train from WTC to Journal Sq with a similar short Uber ride
  
• Van Cortlandt (Bronx) - Can either take the subway or Uber up there
  

Also, would like to play Trump Ferry Point (Bronx) and La Tourette Golf Course (Staten Island) once it gets nicer out.

I'll join this thread. I'm 30 yr old, live in Hoboken, NJ and normally play a ways out in Jersey but not opposed to a few rounds this year out on Long Island or the Staten Island courses. I played South Shore once last year and enjoyed the experience.

Im willing to get out there as soon as. Being British, i'm not scared of a little winter golf - as long as its not too wet.

 

Interested to play some of those coursed that you mentioned Benzenbe. I have heard good things about Skyway and La Tourette. Would love to play Bethpage this year too.

I lived on the Upper East Side for the past 5 years but recently moved to Long Beach. I used to play Split Rock a lot. I played Marine Park over this past summer and liked the layout, but the course wasn't in great shape at the time. I'd also like to play the Trump course. Being on LI, I like to play the Bethpage courses, as theyre the best in Nassau. Harbor Links is solid, just expensive on the weekends. I'm up for traveling to play, so I'm in also.

Sorry I didn't see this, but I'm gonna wait for it to go 45*+ before I'll hop out there and naturally the rain isn't helping anything either. On another note, I'd recommend you sign up for GolfNYC (http://www.golfnyc.com/) since they emailed out discount rates for this past weekend. Skyway is good, usually not overly crowded, but it is a 9 hole course.

I'm in northern bergen county but would be up for playing around the area every once in a while. I'm a teacher, so summertime is golf play time for me. My brother and I are going to try and play bethpage black sometime this summer. Maybe one of you guys from NY would like to join and set up a tee time so we don't have to spend the night camped out in the parking lot playing butt :)

I'm in Rockland county. I play to a 17 or so. I'm a teacher as well so I have summers off. Though I do spend most of July in sunny Manchester, UK with my wife's family. The downside of marrying an English woman: spending half your summer in a place that doesn't have summer.

 

I'm certainly down for playing Bethpage during the week in the summer. Weekends work as well, but it seems easier to get weekday times. I've played Black a few times. I wouldn't mind playing Red though.

Maybe we should keep an eye one the weather over the next couple of months. If the forecast says it will hit high 40s or 50, then we should get a Saturday or Sunday tee time booked.

While this is not immediately helpful, I will be relocating to NYC for work in late August/early September. At that time I will be looking for new playing partners for regular weekend rounds.

 

Will likely be on the Upper East Side, undecided whether I will keep my car.

haven't read all the responses but ill throw my hat in the ring. Live in hells kitchen for the past 3 years, play to a 22 :( but love the game and always looking to play. Go out to long island a lot of weekends to play with my dad but always looking to play more and other courses. Also ive taken lessons at Golfmanhattan and will continue taking them there assuming the results of an MRI on my knee are fine, and with lessons i get 2 hours of simulator time a week so could bring people there if interested. Maybe we can get some sort of outting together once the weather clears up? Im a CPA so no golf for me really until after April15

That's amazing price for Silver Lake. Only problem is, everyone and anyone will be playing today since it's a day off. I foresee 6+ hour rounds. I'd go nuts.

I played Le Tourette today. Invited Benzenbe but he couldn't make the early round. Went out at 8.30, flew round. Great course and for $40, you can't go wrong.

Congrats to anyone who got out over the weekend. By the time i realized how nice it was going to be on Sunday all my usually tracks were booked up until 2 or so.

La Tourette is a nice track but same issue as silver lake, it gets backed up like crazy during warm weather. Was all the snow melted? Also how long did it take? How were conditions?

No snow and around 4 and a half hours to get round. I think it's a really good course and apparently in much better condition in summer.

Yea, thought I was gonna push thru a cold but it wasn't meant to be. It's supposed to be 55+ until Sunday, but rain on Saturday. Hopefully the ground will thaw out and soak it up before Sunday AM.
