the tour issue is sprinkled with fairy dust on the tour van before given out. Fairy dust is known to give 15 extra yards REGARDLESS of swing speed, ball speed, spin, or launch angle.

True, and don't forget that despite Taylor Made's repeated denial the tour issued TPs are made of a different and better titanium all together than the retail heads. :aggressive:

No difference in materials or construction. One has been spec'd and checked for CT. The others have typical manufacturing variances.

With a certain employee leaving TM and going to a new company, it seems that the backdoor supply of TXXXXXX heads has shrunk drastically. Therefore, you're not hearing as much about this club as you normally would. It's really quite a good clubhead.

The posts that state that there is a difference are either sarcastic or made by someone who is uninformed. The serial is different (T to show tour, which means it is not under warranty) and the spec variances are tighter, that is all

Yes, sarcasm born from the claims of another board attempting to sell unobtainium dreams.

I always wondered where that supply chain began, and I suspected it did begin at a back door. Now we know.

Does said former employee now work for Callaway? Seems that the "fairy dust" Callaway clubs have replaced the TM clubs.

:aggressive: :cheesy: :bb:

the Superquad TP is STILL - dust or no dust - a very playable and powerful head!

good call -

cheers,

Are Tour Issue TP heads that much different than Retail TP heads? Also, if you have a TP head that came from a tour van, but has a retail serial number, not a TXXXXX one, how would that head play? Like a Tour or Retail head?

There is no difference between the two. The CT testing is the only step that is not performed on the non-tour serial number heads.

I was lucky enough to be fit recently be one of the TM Tech Vans. They are setup with the same club building equipment as the Tour Vans, and the heads (ooh those drawers full of TP heads!!) are all measured when assembled (if not, just ask and they will measure.) The SuperQuad TP I was fit for came in at exactly 9.5º loft as stated on the sole, and the face angle is 1.5º open. It has a "normal" retail serial number to it. Face angle and loft adjustments can be made, as they have all the same bending blocks/apparatus as the Tour vans. There is a metal hosel weight epoxied in prior to the shaft being installed, so you can get any swingweight you might want still using the "stock" MWT weights.

I asked the TM reps about the first run SQ TP's and the current heads. He did confirm the first heads were not within what TM would have liked to consider spec, and were often quite closed. He said all of the more recent SQ TP heads were coming in very close on loft and pretty much all of them have been 1.5º open, and that very little bending has been needed to be performed on them for the most part.

Hope that helps!

How big is the chance currently to get one of the "closed" SQ TPs? It wouldn't be very nice to get a driver outside TMs own specs :-) Or does TM rebend them before selling?

I am just relaying my experience about being fit at one of their Tech Van stops. All the heads were spec'd out on the trailer, and they have all the equipment to measure and bend them if you so desire.

I know all of the 1st Edition SuperQuad TP's looked very closed to me. The other non-first edition SQ TP's I've seen have all looked at least square to slightly open (based on a sample of about 10 SQ TP's that I have seen.)

One thing....

At a recent tour event, very recent, a monday qualifier had his "retail" driver ct tested before play began on Thursday. It was found to be unconforming and they quickly swapped him out with a tour b head that was conforming. Efforts were made to keep this quiet. So it could have meant a difference to this player had he tee'd it up on thursday. Right?
