Tapered driver shafts?

First I've heard of this... BS or no?

I had planned to have the 73g Redboard pulled from my TS and put into my BurnerTP today. I go to Dick's Sports and the club guy starts telling me the shaft won't fit? I'm perplexed, I thought maybe he didn't realize both are TP's and .335's?

No. He claims there are different shafts, tapers and parallels for drivers and fairway woods and mine is a taper. He says it won't fit. Either it's BS or there are a few clubs out there with some F'd up installs because this is the first time I've heard of it. Can anyone set this straight for me?

I could be wrong, I'm no clubmaker or anything, but if they are both the same tip diameter it should work fine, even if the burner was .350 you could shim it, so I see no reason why that shaft wouldn't work. Like I said though, I'm no clubmaking expert, though I can't imagine the guy at Dick's is any good.

The guy at Dick's doesn't have a clue. The only wood shafts I know of that were taper were the old Dynamic .293 taper shaft they used to put in the original Titleist PT fairways. Now most are 335 or 350 tips and are parallel. I would find someone else to do this for you.
