New car - GM-Ford

It is time to trade in and get a new ride for the wife, have a half day today, planning on car shopping.

Any feedback on 2017 Ford Fusion or 2017 Malibu, or closely priced 4 door sedans 20-23K range?

Thanks.

I have a 2015 Fusion and I couldn't be happier with it. It rides as well as any luxury car did ten years ago. Gets around pretty good for a front wheel drive car in the snow if that's a concern for you. Just a good solid all around car. I haven't drove a recent Malibu but we had one from 2003 and it was a tin can comparatively. I'm sure it's a better car now but that one was nothing to brag about. If I was between the two I'd go Fusion all day.

Just a honest question for you? Why a midsize sedan?

It's just my personal opinion, but i struggle to see the value in most midsize sedans. Just because the entry level sedans have gotten so much bigger and more equipped over the years. A fully loaded Corolla, Sentra, Civic etc, will usually come in around the price of the base midsize sedans and have a lot more features. My Corolla that i just traded in i bought for 23K Canadian and it had leather, moonroof, rear camera, touchscreen etc....And it was 10K less than a Camry with similar features while having a wheelbase not too much shorter than the previous gen Camry. I could fit 2-3 golf bags in the trunk.

I remember going in to look at Camry's (this was 2014) and telling the sales guy that i just didn't see the value in it after seeing the Corolla. Unless you want a bigger engine i didn't see the point since the Corolla had all the same stuff but was just a bit shorter wheelbase.

I get SUV's, CUV's, AWD cars of all shapes and sizes, trucks etc.....I just don't see the value in 2WD midsize sedans.

Now keep in mind. I am not a genius. I could very well be wrong about everything

I have a decent 4wd truck to haul crap and my kids 4 wheeler, small family (3), like to keep my wife in a nice ride which allows less frowns as UPS shows up with golf clubs.

The 2017 Malibu went 20% off this week, got one listed at 26895, for 20895. Has all the nice stuff, sweet car, just brought it home to the wife about 2 hours ago.

This car has a ton of room.

I have a 14 Fusion Titanium AWD, fully loaded Tuxedo Black on black including 19" wheel's and absolutely love it! Paddle shifters are useless, brakes are a little soft for my liking and the gas mileage is no where near what the sticker says BUT those are small potatoes compared to what else this car does well. I'm actually thinking of trading it in for a 17 Fusion Sport...the AWD is excellent and it's a very solid, quiet well built car.

Those are two nice cars to pick from. You got a great deal on that Malibu!

I've spent a lot of time driving various levels of Malibu and Fusion as rental cars over the last year. They are both great cars. I don't care for the base motor (I think maybe a 2.5L 4cyl?) in the Fusion, but the Ecoboost-powered cars are great.

On the Malibu, I haven't driven the hybrid, but both turbos options drive very nicely. Great effort from GM and for what you paid that is a great deal. Only thing is I haven't figured out how to disable the engine start/stop feature, but that's a me problem, it won't bother most people.

I have moved to two GM vehicles in the last year as I just bought a 2017 GMC Canyon this week. The ride and comfort of the GMs in general have improved a lot in the last few years IMO. I have traditionally been a Toyota person but I think their quality has suffered in the last few years. We have a 2011 Ford Explorer as a company vehicle and that thing is a piece of junk. Maybe just a lemon but it has torn up a lot and rides terrible.

My wife drives a Charger, and I drive a Mazda 3. Huge difference between the 2 as far a space. Just getting in and out of my car is a pain in the azz even though I'm not a huge guy (6'0/190).

Back to the topic at hand, I've leased/owned 2 Expedions and a Flex, and a Tahoe, and 2 Silverados. I'd go Chevy/GMC every day of the week and twice on Sundays. the Fords were a pain in the Azz.

The wife was out of town last weekend, drove the new ride to the course both mornings. Well, for me, this is like a damn luxury car, so little effort to do anything, all at your fingertips, great smooth ride, great gas mileage, lots of space.

I am more of a point A to point B guy, whatever gets me there, but I could get used to something like that.

I might need to take that new position at work....

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
