ESPN and the Bursting of the Sports Bubble

You know, until this thread came along I never put TOO much thought into why I barely watch ESPN / Sportscenter anymore..

 

I know I can't stand Stephen A. That guy is such a tool. Once I saw the sympathetic interview he conducted with Mayweather, and talked with him about his struggles (AKA domestic abuse)... I just couldn't understand how ESPN could air that blatant disrespect for the victims.

 

Anyway, Skip or Kip, that guy is obnoxious.

 

The only thing I might listen to is Mike and Mike on satillite radio on the way to work (only if Howard Stern is on commercial)....

 

All in all, ESPN does not have the personalities or the content that I find useful anymore. And constant coverage of Kaepernick about his anthem protests (when he didn't even get out to vote) took away time that could have been spent on action on the field of play.

 

ESPN should cut back on the political rhetoric, and Hollywood antics (the award for Jenner??? Really??)... and get back to the best coverage and analytics in sports.

Aside from the golf coverage, the golf channel is just as bad.

 

Brandel is the golf equivalent of Skip Bayless.

For me, ESPN is competing against apps on my phone, all of which are free, more entertaining, customizable, and on my schedule.

 

As others pointed out though, it's not just a ESPN issue, it's a provider issue. In my area Charter has basically had a monopoly, but now that they've run fiber in our area, the cost to get content has dropped my more that 1/2. In the end, this rolls up to ESPN and you have the issues being discussed here. On a related point, I also found out Charter will stop carrying my local Foxsports channel, so even with the exorbitant price I pay, they still can't keep the lights on there.

It is a crime what these cable companies have been able to get away with. I only watch ESPN for love sports coverage. If Fiber becomes a legit alternative and actually is available, that would make it very easy to dump cable.

The thing for me with espn is that they they promote militant racist newscasters.

 

Jemele Hill, her co-host, Steven A. and Jalen Rose...all of their opinions are always racially biased.

If any "other" of their anchors were continually that blatant, they would be pulled off the air and out of a job

Think everyone here has covered the bases, and they all contribute to their decline. Management at the mothership is petrified of offending people who dont even watch their programming, but offend many who do

I prefer my sports news be reported without a political bias, ESPN doesn't seem to get that people (mostly guys) tuned into their channel to get sports highlights and escape all the politics and drama in regular news.

 

I don't care what sports reporters and retired athletes think about anything unrelated to sports. I refuse to watch ESPN and MTV, seems with the exception of golf I spend less and less time watching anything that is broadcast on cable.

A little more traditional view from me why I dont watch ESPN anymore.

 

1) Michael Sam Courage award. Because he came out of the closet? Who cares if you are gay, he was a mediocre player at best who isn't even in the league anymore. They want to make such a big deal about treating a person for what they do and how they act and not their sexual orientation, but they gave him an award for the exact opposite reason of what they seek?

 

2) Bruce Jenner gets the same award. Its hard to watch a sports award show and explain this one to your 9yr old son. "Yes son, they are honoring him because he was a man, and now he's had surgeries to become a woman."

 

3) The constant coverage of Colin K. and people who are kneeling during the National Anthem instead of actually showing the flag and people who are respecting the country that we live in. They would concentrate on the "kneelers" the whole pre-game and occasionally show the flag and the person singing, just to spark more controversy and ratings. Sickening.
