TP5 v Callaway Supersoft

Some comments and observations from my round today. Shot 90 on Par 71, 18 handicap.

Well completely different balls no one would ever doubt - I'm just trying to settle down on a ball type that suits me. I don't have a mega swing speed but can hit things a fair distance. Today, according to garmin X40, best drive was 278 and 6 iron averages 160.

I played 9 holes with the TP5 and 9 with the supersoft.

In a nutshell, the standard of the golf didn't change, bogey golf in the main. The balls felt completely different. The TP felt very hard (not Pinnacle gold hard) even on the driver. Not a feeling I enjoyed. On three shots it felt good - all fairway woods well connected with. Around the green it didn't feel particularly good and I didn't notice any magic (in the context of my handicap..) Nice of the putter (Nike method core - poly metal insert)

The supersoft felt good and was also involved in my longest drives. It seemed longer, felt better on all shots - softer, nicer - and that involved greens and putts. Enjoyed the feeling round the green and felt I got the measure of its behaviour. Loved it of the putter.

So for me, and my golf, it would appear the Supersoft beats the TP 5, there's no benefit to spending double the price. Hope it might help some of you who are on the ball quest!

You're correct, Supersoft is your ball. Which is cool, it's a good one and cheap

Well, there are two balls that don't normally get compared.

A really nice alternative to the SS is the Bridgestone e6Soft. Currently two dozen for $40 most places and a really solid ball. Softer feel off the irons, decent spin and a nice feeling off the putter.

Really worth trying.

The only reason you'd want to play the TP5 over the SS is if the SS wasn't giving you enough spin on chips and pitches around the green. That's going to be the biggest difference between the two, but since you like the way the SS behaves for you in the short game there's no reason to shell out the extra money to play TP5...or any other more expensive ball for that matter.

I guess everyone is different. I have seen a few reviews trashing the e6soft. Do you know the compression on that ball? I am looking for a yellow equivalent of the GamerSoft.

I actually can't believe I discovered this thread bc just this morning I had the same comparison. I've played the SS exclusively since it debuted 3 or 4 years ago. Absolutely fantastic ball. I love it. Never even consider switching. This fall I was chosen to demo the new pro v1. After doing that I decided to open up the ball search this year. I've played the pro v1 and v1x, chrome soft and the softX and the TP5x. Hands down the tp5x is the best of all of them, for me anyway and it not close. I've never really liked the pro v. The new v1X isn't bad. Absolutely hated the chrome soft x and the chrome soft is just eh. I've decided that if someone can make a ball that feels like the SS but performs like the tp5x, that would be the best ball ever.

Ive also noticed that my scores have creeped up a few strokes bc switching balls around I never know what the ball is going to do. I like the TP5X but not the price. Has anyone tried the 2017 SS. Supposed to have more green side spin. Haven't tried them yet but I'm probably gonna pick up a Dzn and try.
