Bay Area - Staying in San Rafeal - Need Advice

We will be staying in San Rafeal in a couple weeks and would like to get out for at least 1 round. (We are coming from Seattle where we will be playing Chambers Bay the weekend before). At this point I think we will end up at TPC Harding Park, but if there is another track we should be looking at instead I'd like to know about it. Any thoughts?

Harding is a solid track but look at either the Presidio or Silverado up in Napa. You're probably about 30 min from Napa and 20 min from Presidio (closer than Harding).

if you have access to private clubs, the Meadow Club in Fairfax would be close, or a bit further: Mayacama near Santa Rosa.

 

Otherwise, if you want to find a public course similar in quality to Chambers Bay, you'd have to drive 100 minutes to Pasatiempo in Santa Cruz.

Do you have a distance limit?? If you want to stay close then Harding or Presidio would be my recommendations. If you didnt mind driving I'd recommend Poppy Ridge or Wente in the East Bay, Bayonet/Blackhorse or Poppy Hills in Monterey Area, Yocha Dehe in Yolo county

 

Also if you have a chance go to Sol Fol in downtown San Rafael. Favorite place to eat in the area

Distance isn't really an issue. We have our own vehicle and will drive up to two hours for a decent golf outing. Out of all that you mentioned, which would you choose if you could only choose one.

 

We are off to Chambers Bay in a couple hours. Hopefully it warms up a bit. Who knew it would be 30° cooler here than it is currently in Wisconsin.

Would prefer <$100 but will make exception for courses that are justifiable. We just played Chambers for $120. I think we would prefer a riding cart for this next outing. Our scores seem to reflect the soreness of our backs as a walking round progresses.

I'd pick Bayonet/Blackhorse over HMB. I like Bayonet over Blackhorse

I would look on teeoff.com or golfnow and get a Pasatiempo deal for around $175. HMB $$ is based on the tee time.

you cant go wrong with Harding Park or as another member added, Presidio is solid track. Only thing with traveling to places like Black Horse/Bayonet is that it is a drive to get there. From your spot I would say at least 1:15-1:30 each way. Half moon might be a little close at about 30-45 minutes.

I would second Pasatiempo. Golfnow has great rates. It's an Alister Mackenzie course with his trademark bunkering. I've played Bayonet as well. If I had to choose which to play again it would be Pasatiempo. Both courses are great, but Pasatiempo was very more enjoyable for me.
