Cape Cod Golf

So I am Back. Played the following Cape courses over they last year. Captains, Brookside, Sandwich Hollows, Blue Rocks, Dennis Pines and Highlands, The Cape Club, and Cape Cod CC. Nothing spectacular about the Cape Club. They are doing a lot of course work (rearranging Hole 1 and some other things) and you can get in trouble fast. Just wasn't the premier experience that I heard about. Very pricey. Pines and Highlands are excellent. Highlands great place for those who hit off-line shots. Can't really get into too much trouble. Conditions and terrain were great. Pines a little more confined, but nothing too bad. These are my favorite two on the cape.

Cape Cod CC, nothing too memorable re: terrain. Okay course and nice conditions, but there are better. Brookside has a nice view and club house, but many of the fairways are significantly off camber, so a good hit could result in a ball rolling out of bounds . Some fun holes, and a fun play, but wait for a deal. Captains too pricey for my taste. Lot's like it though. The hidden gem is Sandwich Hollows. Very good value (low money). Conditions are very good and lot's of different holes that require thinking and good shot placement mixed in with wide open ones.

Played Highlands last Friday on a beautiful afternoon. My first time back there (and to the Cape in general) in 30 years! I always really enjoyed it back then and it seemed pretty much unchanged to me. I would love the chance to play there just after the peak tourist season has ended but the weather's still great. I'm sure it would be a bit less crowded than it was on picture-perfect afternoon in August.

> Played Highlands on Monday. Was in really nice shape. Tough course to play for the first time. Lots of undulating fairways and elevation changes. Play about 2-3x the break that you see. Putting was almost impossible. Fun round!

I played Dennis HIghlands 2 times when I was in the Cape in late July. It was in great shape for municipal course compared to what I experience in Virginia (where I live). Lots of undulation and challenging shots, would be a cool course to play regularly. I would recommend anyone traveling to the Cape to consider it if they are within a reasonable distance of it.

Cape Golf - Summer Crowds are Over!

Played The Dennis Courses, Bass River, and a walked a quick 9 at Harwichport this past weekend. Now that the summer crowds are gone, golf on the Cape is awesome!

Dennis Pines and Highlands have a 2 for 1 deal on greens fees, so total pp for 18 and cart $54. Conditions were excellent both fairways and greens. Also, if you want to have a "replay", you just pay a cart fee and you can play the other course in the afternoon for as many holes as you want. We did 36 holes for a total of $74 w/cart. I personally like Pines more than Highlands, but each favors a different type of golf. Highlands more up/down open fairways. Pines more narrow fairways and water comes into play in several holes. Both of these courses are amongst my favorites in Mass.

Bass River also had outstanding conditions, but I found the course layout less interesting than Pines or Highlands. Still a great play. Harwichport is in good shape, but very short. 2800 yards for 9. Easy walk as it has really no terrain. A little pricey ($29 walk), but it is not crowded.
