Bend in October

Hey everyone,

 

Sorry if this is a duplicate thread - I'm heading to Bend (Sunriver, specifically) this weekend for the unlimited stay and play package. Has anyone played the Sunriver courses (Crosswater, Woodlands, Meadows) during this time of year and what should I expect in terms of course conditions?

 

Weather looks like its going to be mid-40s with no rain, so really just trying to get more info about the courses.

Have not been there for a long time.

 

Remembering the morning is very cold and frosted greens and fairways. Everything was white until close to 11 A.M. then it got cold real soon in the early afternoon. Whether pattern had changed in recent year so do call the pro shop to ask questions.

If you plan to play the CrossWater, best to have reserved tee time because everyone wants to play that course. I recalled that course was not on the all you could play list. We had to pay extra to play it.

 

Nothing spectacular about these golf courses and I'm very surprised that they are still open for play at this time of the year.

I played Crosswater last week and it was in decent shape. A little bit of wear and tear but nothing problematic. The course isn't as good as I thought after playing it the first time about 5 years ago. Still fun and very challenging, but it moved down my list of favorite courses in Central Oregon.

 

I know Meadows was punched at the start of October because it was closed when I was there so I would guess the greens will be bumpy. Hope the weather warms up for you, that's a tough temperature due to frost delays.

I thought Oct might be pushing it weather wise but you should be fine, just starting to get cold. I thought I saw that Bend got a dusting of snow today.

Thanks everyone for the info! I called ahead and they confirmed that there's no frost, and it looks like the weather is picking up.

Nice. Are you going with the spouse/lady friend? Go into Bend and have dinner at Blacksmith.

 

I actually enjoy Meadows as much if not more than Crosswater. Meadows has some of the nicest greens I've played on. We were there the week after the US Boys and the USGA told them they had to slow the greens down from a 13. Not many if any courses with Bent grass greens up here.

My buddies played in central Oregon last week and had at least two frost delays. I have another friend who lives in Prineville and she has snow at her house.

Crosswater today was really nice. No frost warnings and turf was in terrific condition. I was amazed at how soft the bunkers were. At 6 though, the temp dropped to 36 degs.

Hahaha. Golf in central Oregon is funny this time of year. Sunny in the day and shorts and a polo are perfect. Then the sun goes down and you're scrambling for a sweatshirt and pants.
