higher loft driver

just plain bill

Recommended Posts

I'm on the Mizuno jpx900 driver for the 3rd time......adjustable loft but I believe the shaft; Fujikura Speeder evolution II 569 regular, just fits me....I'm about 90mph speed and this might not be the overall longest but I can shape it at will and hit it higher than most clubs at stated loft....I play it at 9.5* tee it lower and can hit any shot....makes it more repeatable....enjoy the shaft so much I ordered 3wd with same....a little light but ez...... 45" in length....losing speed sucks but I've just moved up a tee or 2!

I have two Fusion drivers, and the shorter one at 45" is my favorite, and it also has a 12 gram weight. The other one is 45 1/2" long and a 5 gram weight; I had a hard time finding the head with it, and the lighter weight had less pop on the ball.

well... I recently went to a 13.5 Rogue w stiff shaft, and I hit it not only longer easier but also straighter than I did the 10.5 Rogue. But that's ME.

Do I pop it up from time to time? Yes, when I tee it too high.

My dad, who is a much better golfer than I am, also plays a 13.5, a Cleveland. Works for him; he shoots his age and under. When he was younger, he played a 3-wood off the tee for twenty five years, no driver in the bag, as a tournament (amateur) player and contender, very competitive guy. Also, used and continues to use an old Chipper (one-sided, conforming) around the green. If you think you can beat him, well more power to you, but your handicap will need to be consistently 7 or less for you to have a chance... and if your 10.5 or 9 or whatever gets and keeps you there, hey then more power to you, great, keep it up.

(and btw, Call it "old man golf" if you will, as I've seen comments regarding high loft drivers and use of chippers, and if you do, no matter what clubs you choose to use, I hope you are walking the course as you play because if you're young and riding you'll not be in shape as you age. I'm 56 and walk and not only keep up but frequently have to WAIT on the younger riders, and I don't know whether to laugh or cry when I see fat 20- and 30- somethings riding. Play golf as a Sport, and you'll be better off in the long run. Myself, I always walk, and I almost always shoot better on the back nine, warmed up. Some of my dad's friends are 85+ years old, walk the course, and don't slow anybody down... the people that cause slow play are ones w no course etiquette - not playing "ready golf" - and the baby prima donnas who think they need a GPS-iphone to sink a putt... come on, hit the ball, with whatever clubs you pick... make a decision and hit it.)
