The most 'touristy' thing will be the golf itself. If you are planning on playing the marquee tracks you're way more likely to be paired with a North American or European, than a local. Like any other destination, stay away from the places with extra parking for tour buses or employees standing out front handing out discount vouchers and you'll be fine.

I don't know if it's a transmission thing or a side of the road thing, but really for a golf trip getting a car hire is about one bazillion times easier than hoofing it around the place using public transport. Would you use public transport for Pinehurst or Kohler?

That's right, and the reason is that visitors teetimes are not the same than members/locals. I played a few dozen rounds on big names in either Ireland or Scotland and have never been paired with any local yet. Actually I can count on one hand how many times I've been paired with someone else... Ballybunion, Waterville, St Andrews Old and I think that's it !

Agree w that ... I'm not doing a driver ill do a rental

Thought after reading all these threads id pick 2 areas & golf the heck outta them

Other than TOC I dont have any necessity to play anywhere & while id like to play courses like kingsbarns theyre not a priority

I want to enjoy the real golf in Scotland ...

Thanks for all the help thru tgis thread ... things will change after I win the Powerball ?️‍♂️

Not everybody will agree on what is enjoyable and shouldn’t agree. For me, enjoying golf in Scotland included taking in sites, reading up on the history of the courses and towns we were playing on/around, seeing some castles/museums/ruins, just driving - that’s just us. I just wouldn’t enjoy golf/eat/golf/eat/sleep/drive/golf/eat, etc. And yes there is a lot in between those opposite ends of the spectrum and none is “wrong”. Wife and I are going back and there isn’t golf on the agenda every day (but almost, lol). No 36 hole days are scheduled. Ferry day trip to Belfast, more castles, Rosslyn Chapel, the “fair” at North Berwick - tons to do!

These guys were fun to see.

I personally think it gets too much coverage and would head to Moray every day ahead of Nairn. Beauty of these forums and threads we all have opinions.

I look forward to playing Moray, being on more Aussie boards, I never see Nairn mentioned. Perhaps I have fallen into a trap, we enjoyed the whole day so much given a mate is from the town (and gave us an intro) that I may have overestimated the course.
