Oakley Flak 2.0 XL vs Oakley Targetline

Recommended Posts

I’ve traditionally liked glasses with open frames on the bottom because I was distracted when looking down. Interesting that they think they fixed this with a deeper lense on the targetline

I like a semi rimless frame too. I can’t decide between the Flak 2.0 XL or the new Targetline. None of the stores in my area have the Targetline yo try unfortunately..

when putting or sun goes behind some clouds the Targetline looks like you'd have zero option to remove them and flip over the back of your hat, Flaks are absolutely perfect for that instance....

haven't checked them out in-store yet but did see them online. interesting that they have the new Prizm Dark Golf as opposed to the Prizm Golf. good for those who think the Prizm Golf is too light. For me - it's been perfect and no issues.

i've had the Flak 2.0 for a long while now. previously Fast Jackets and before that the Flak Jacket XLJ (have had Oakley since i was in middle school). i use the Flak 2.0 every day and have 5 total lenses. Sapphire, Jade, Voilet, Ruby and Prizm Golf. All are polarized besides the Prizm Golf. The frame is light, flexible and doesn't hurt my head.

I think you should try them both and see what will fit you. i prefer polarized lenses OFF the course 100% of the time and the Targetline looks limited in colors. Of course being new, there may be some that come out in the future.

FWIW i did my homework on Oakley and their Prizm. here in Arizona you better have some good eye pro to throw on or you are gonna get smoked. for golf I went with the largest lenses available all frames, and myself preferred the Baseball Prizm selections. pictured in order Flak 2.0, Radar, M2. I will admit, day to day I grab and walk out the door with the Flak 2.0 so often I probably need to be drug tested (and I have plenty of typical off course Oakleys in GASCAN, Turbine Rotor, Twoface, Batwolf). the Flak just seem to be the perfect all around, and after you realize that you get over any hesitation about what they might "look like".

edit: now, if you were looking for only a pair of golf shades, never to wear them off the course (I know I can't do it with these), gotta try the M2. IMO they are really tough to beat for the best coverage, and you catch zero glimpse of the bottom edge of the lens when putting with these.

Just received the Targetline with the Prizm dark golf lenses yesterday. Will be playing first round with them today. I agree that you can’t flip them around backwards. I was playing round with them and I do think you can put them above visor front facing when you want to take them off for a putt. One thing I really like about them is the way they fit when wearing a hat. Much preferred over my old Flack Jackets where I had to put the arms on the outside of my hat and the frame set at an angle. The glasses are very light. The protective case that comes with them is pretty nice.

I picked my up for 20% off at backcountry.com as part of their Memorial Day sale.

Played first round this afternoon/evening with Targetline w/ dark golf Prizm lenses. Glasses were really light and comfortable to wear. No issues at all fitting with my golf hat on. It was hot and I was sweating quite a bit and had absolutely no slipping during the round. I also had no interference with the frames in my vision during my swing. The first part of my round was in bright sun and lenses were fine (although my eyes aren’t too sensitive to sunlight to begin with). I had a few puts in shadows where I took them off and wore them above the bill of my hat without any issue. I don’t know that I would say they helped me read greens any better than without sunglasses, but I don’t feel like they hindered my reads in any way.

Bottom line is that I’m glad I got them and since I always wear a hat when I play, I like the way these fit better than my old Flack jackets.

Sounds like the TargetLine are good for those that wear bucket/sun/wide-brim hats. I've had to start wearing sun hats due to a medication I'm on (increases sun sensitivity) and the Flaks are a no-go with those types of hats.

Sounds like the Targetline are exactly what I am lookin for. I ordered the Flaks but Oakley sent the wrong pair to me. I am going to return them and get the Targetlines.

I picked up the targetlines with dark golf lenses two weeks ago. Zero complaints with the new lens and prefer this frame to others that offer the dark golf lens.

Did you get them in black or white? I am going to order a pair too and cannot decide which color to get, lol.

sorry to just respond...I ordered them in black.

Would anybody be able to comment Oakley prescription lenses?

Can't hit the golf ball with contact lenses but playing without sunnies here in Australia is not an option. Glasses and prescription sunnies are a nuisance in many ways but not much one can do about that.

The Oakley lenses will have to be ordered from the USA so it will take at least a month to get them and the price will be over AUD400 (USD300) for the lenses only with the total cost coming to over AUD600 (USD450). Can get decent prescription sunnies for the same price but frames like Flak 2.0 are not that easy to find and the heavily curved lenses are not easy to make with prescription.

I ordered a pair from Oakley. I much prefer them over my other Rx sunglasses due to the clarity, however they took some getting used to.

At first I couldnt figure out if they messed up my Rx or what was going on because it was harder for me to focus on things due to everything being so crisp.

Now I never want to take them off!

I got the flak 2.0 with iridium polarized lenses if I remember correctly.
